The reason so many people are closeted is because society stigmatizes same sex relationships! I feel that it is slightly shifting in younger generations, but older generations grew up in a severely homophobic culture, so that's why there are a lot who have families already and may be divorced and finally get to explore their sexuality that they repressed their whole life. People say that there are more LGBTQ+ people nowadays, but in reality, young people just feel more comfortable coming out now because their generation seems more accepting regarding sexuality!
