I’m actually glad you mentioned the Peter Pan actor. That really rubbed me the wrong way, as soon as I saw the trailer I was like… no WAY are they actually doing this. Bobby tried to stay clean after getting out of prison and became interested in art, but because he was already weak from drug use, he died of a suspected heart attack, alone, in an abandoned building, and wasn’t discovered to be dead until over a year later when his mother, having already lost her husband that year, was finally informed that her only child was buried in an unmarked grave on Hart Island, where they still are, because obviously they couldn’t find them at that point. But yeah I’m glad Disney thinks it’s funny when child actors have a negative self image because they were more valuable at the age of 11 and then are deemed disposable due to “acne”

I feel two things about this. Mostly, I do feel disgusted, especially since we see no redemption or chance for Peter Pan. It feels like the writers knew the story about Briscoll and thought it would be funny. However, I also think it was pretty ballsy for this to be included at all. It has been considered one of the darker things Walt Disney ever did, but for decades only big film and animation fans knew. Now it's out in the open and we can talk about it. However, I wish they had given Peter a happier ending.

I dunno, on the non-Disney side of things, the cameos included have so little to actually do that you can actually hear the Disney executive whining "...FINE" whenever they appear, having been told that they needed non-Disney characters for this film to work, so they just sprung for the bare minimum. It fact, it's kind of telling that the only significant non-Disney cameo, Ugly Sonic, is basically just a giant joke about how much one of their competitors f*cked up.

@@jakoblent4694 I don't actually think it's mainly because of the animation styles, that should be irrelevant imo. If you watch the behind the scenes of WFRR, you'll understand just how much work was put into the live action sections so that the animators could draw over that. The piano duel scene in particular was the most elaborate, they built a whole stage for people to walk under and carry poles with plates on top, and the animators would then draw the penguins in place. These days, however, that amount of effort and especially passion is so rarely found.
@paulmerviel1617
@paulmerviel1617 Жыл бұрын
@@jakoblent4694 But there are of course more reasons other than the animation and production effort. The writing is probably the most important reason, with the story having so many layers, comparedbto everything these days being comparatively shallow (not to mention the overall horniness of the film too lmao). Then there's also the acting, I've rarely seen modern actors put in as much soul into similar roles to Bob Hoskins' and Christopher Lloyd's. And then of course there's the background corporate aspect. I mean, this was the only time we ever saw Donald & Daffy AND Mickey & Bugs together in the same scenes. I don't care how many references Chip 'N Dale has, WFRR was revolutionary for that reason.

I just kinda felt mixed on the entire movie. Being someone who kinda grew up with classic shorts featuring the two and a bit of the original Rescue Rangers show I thought it was one of the more unique ways to bring the two back into mainstream, note unique doesn’t equate to being great. I did end up enjoying some elements of the film. Mostly just the mixed media which at least looked decent for the most part, but generally I thought the overall movie was just okay. My main takeaway was that it was very reference heavy which should have made it bad but it somehow didn’t, at least not to the extent I thought it would. I think when stuff is just in the background and not supposed to grab the audience’s attention it doesn’t feel too bad because it’s not like they’re trying to fill in the actual runtime of the movie with references versus when stuff is just name dropped in dialogue where it is really in your face about it.

I was surprised at how enjoyable this movie is. Like, it’s not really anything incredible, but like LS Mark said, there are some genuinely clever moments and interesting ideas, and the writers clearly did give a [crap] about the movie. I especially liked the story about Paw Patrol dogs mauling the swat team, because that one particularly felt like the movie was laughing with the audience, and they did a good job making sure not to blow it up into some big “HEY, YOU KNOW THE PAW PATROL?” type moment. For those who claim Peter Pan’s story being similar to Bobby Discroll’s is just an accident by Disney I just wanna point out that the chances of that being true is next to none. They literally could’ve chosen any character to play the villain. Not only could it have been any Disney character, but literally any of the characters from all the film companies they bought for this movie. And why make him the villain?! Like that’s just messed up.. And even if it was an accident (Which it’s most likely not) the story is just still just way to similar and just gives you a bad vibes even if it wasn’t intentional.

Unlike Space Jam 2 or Scoob a lot of the cameos were blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments rather than being so heavily focused on. I must say: I love this movie, from the style, to the plot, to the surprising cameos, but there are still some questionable choices I had with it, and I’m not just talking about their voices. Which one to start…? SPOILERS 1. The decision to keep Dale in CGI - I don’t know, I think it kinda takes off a bit of their taste to keep one in 2D and one in 3D. As a stylistic choice it works, but not permanently. 2. Not turning back all the ones who has been bootleged - I know, maybe they did turn them back to normal, but it was never made clear enough asides from Chip and Monterey Jack. I think that "showing, not telling" was kind of necessary in here. 3. Gadget and Zipper ended up getting married and having with children - Really? these 2? I don’t know, I don’t feel so completed with it. Throughout the cartoon they didn’t have a lot of chemistry between each other, and… I don’t know… A mouse and a fly? Zipper was already showing interest in a Queen Bee that asked for their help in one episode, and Gadget did had much more chemistry with Chip and Dale. But I guess they did remember that both of them already had other girls who fell over them in the cartoon (Tammy on Chip and Foxglove on Dale), and that they’re also already sharing the same girlfriend (Clarice, according to "Two Chips and a Miss"), so I guess they had to do some next steps with Gadget, but still… Quite bizarre for me. 4. Peter Pan remaining evil - Same with #2. I honestly think it kinda ruined Peter Pan that many people loved. I think it could’ve work so much better if he by himself was a bootleg victim as well. I do think this movie is splendid 90%, but in 10% I still had some thought to get over.

I think it's a fine movie. It felt like a "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" follow-up where all cartoon characters from Toon Town existed in this weird universe and they liberate the entire live-action world so that cartoons could be free and do whatever they want. Chip N Dale in this movie worked okay and it's becoming like a buddy comedy film where two little critters which they based on Disney Afternoon and then go on a wacky crime adventure which worked just fine and I thought it will be weak they release two trailers so I went seeing it and they manage to make it nostalgia, fan-service, and homage moments like fans used to watch in Disney Afternoon. Some of the licensed cartoon characters were all random and some of them were in mend based on Disney characters that were properly well done with Easter eggs and they have changed with awkward moments that they exist with change purposes in the movie. Even Ugly Sonic looks weird and I didn't find that interesting or very funny to me and all of them just felt very forced like putting Batman Vs ET was pretty annoying. Would have a Marvel character to fight over Predator so why put Batman in it? At least they forced "Free Guy" to put Captain America shield in this 20th Century Studio because prop the party of Disney. Anyways it's a good movie and worth watching and I can see how they wanted to have a nostalgia fan service of Rescue Rangers and worked well than Space Jam 2. By the way, Zipper and Gadget's real relationship was soooooo odd when they mention and imagine Jessica and Roger Rabbits have their kids which it's strangely weird.

This movie was okay, but I really didn’t like how they did Peter’s story. For those who don’t know, in the film, Peter becomes basically a mob boss type character who bootlegs characters and uses them for those type of mockbuster films like Ratatoing. Admittedly, that’s an entertaining concept. How they handled it however, was not. Basically, after the first Peter Pan movie, Peter hit puberty, became a teenager and was no longer wanted as an actor for films. So he decided to kidnap other cartoon characters and bootleg them after he made a bootleg Peter Pan film. Sounds harmless right? That is until you realize that the Voice Actor for Peter Pan in the first movie was a child actor who hit puberty, became a teenager and while he did make more films as an adult instead of becoming a Mob Boss, he unfortunately died at the age of 31.

The only thing that really bugs me is what they did to Bobby Discroll when introducing Peter Pan as the main villain. The fact that they made his backstory identical to the real life kid who played Peter Pan in the 1953 movie is tasteless. Disney threw Bobby Driscoll to the curb, and he ended up dying on the streets. And now, 50 years later, it's being used as a joke in a Disney movie. Apparently his actual worth meant nothing to them, but his story did. Real classy Disney.

Some of the cameo characters made us laugh so much (our favorites were Gucci Dobby and RIP Sora). I didn't mind the plot, honestly. It was very simple and you could see the twists coming (which the movie itself touched on a few times), but overall the whole Bootlegging thing felt kinda funny. It's something that does happen a lot and I thought the in-universe explanation was kinda clever. It's a fun time. Not amazing, but fun.

This movie tries to make commentary on things like CG vs traditional animation when Chip himself IS ALSO CG animation just cel shaded to look traditional. It tried to talk about Peter's backstory but since the character of Peter pan has no sympathy it falls flat and just makes it look like Disney is patting itself on the back for even bringing it up. It tried to go both ball to the wall and take itself seriously and it failed at both. I'm so tired of this notion that newer tech = better animation. I'd rather watch a 30 second clip of Bugs and Mickey taking in Who framed Roger Rabbit a movie released in 1988 over this 2022 modern day film any day. Why? It isn't trying to make fun of either character. It's better animated. It isn't trying to be one thing or another. WFRR works where this fails because it focused on the actual story. The cameos are the icing on the cake, the cake being Eddie, Roger, Jessica, the villain and story. Here the story gets lost in the cameos and then tries to regroup but fumbles.

I came away from the movie thinking it was...fine. Just fine. Though annoyingly, it's one of those pieces of entertainment that, despite being passable, I have more to complain about or nitpick than actually applaud. It's kind of trying to be a hybrid of a modern Rescue Rangers adventure & a meta-style Who Framed Roger Rabbit? successor that, if it succeeds, is in SPITE of its combination rather than because of it. On the Rescue Rangers side of things, it fails because, as you mentioned, the Rescue Rangers barely have anything to do with the actually story. Hell, outside of opening flashbacks, Gadget and Zipper don't even appear until SEVENTY MINUTES IN, & what they did with those characters is...an abomination against god, to say the least. It's just really uninterested in actually looking at the Rescue Rangers, their personalities (Chip & Dale are basically little more than an '80s buddy cop duo), or what they mean to fans, despite the film's token human character being a massive Rescue Rangers fangirl (a character that sadly gives KiKi Layne barely anything to do). On the Roger Rabbit side of things, while it does have some clever ideas that would fit right in there, like the whole "bootlegging" setup being a twisted toon version of human trafficking or the Main Street USA expy being populated by wholesome-looking characters who actually used their images to cover up illegal activities, the Simpsons & Daria-styled characters in the opening school scene helping to imply this was before such characters got their big break, and a couple of others, you can always tell that The Mouse is clearly holding back when it comes to providing any crossover material (again, the only significant Non-Disney cameo is a giant joke about one of their competitors f*cking up, if anything). We don't exactly get any Donald vs. Daffy piano duets, to say the least. Pretty much the majority of the cameos are just...there. Just sitting or standing around, never speaking. And as such, it never really gives as big an illusion of this giant cartoon side of Hollywood as it should. Hell, it doesn't even reach Ready Player One levels of spectacle. there's not really much in the way of commentary either, just "Boy, reboots are silly & Hollywood is pretty unoriginal" (pot calling the kettle black there), mostly limited to one scene with Chip looking at posters on the street, including one gender-flipped film that I am sadly 100% convinced that Disney will try to make a reality. And I have one of the same complaints here that I did with Space Jam: A New Legacy: Where the hell are all of the modern cartoon characters?? A New Legacy had no Steven Universe, Adventure Time, We Bare Bears, et cetera, & Rescue Rangers has no Amphibia, Owl House, Gravity Falls, et cetera (allegedly a couple appear at the end, but A. if so, only for the briefest of moments, & B. they do so in off-model, unrecognizable forms). And yeah, that's probably me just mad at what could or should have been, but if this is supposed to a satire about modern entertainment, why the hell NOT do any actual satire about modern animation, the contrast between cartoons then & now, et cetera? Why act like absolutely zero cartoons of note existed in the 2010s & beyond, despite having some of the most notable animations productions in those years? And not just Rick and Morty, just a Rick and Morty nod doesn't count, and weird that BOTH movies went that route... There are other things that hinder the film, like the awful animation for the 2D characters mentioned in the video, the confusing rules as to how things work in this universe (like how a toon like Peter Pan can physically grow up, but Chip isn't seemingly any older after 30 years, and one of the Lost Boys DOESN'T grow up, & what about Return to Neverland or the Kingdom Hearts games...f*ck, the headaches are coming again, abandoning this), some groan-worthy jokes like the Modern Simpsons-style thing mentioned where they joke about certain cliches are lame but then do them anyway, but there are some good jokes that land as well, some decent action at times, a few clever bits, &...yeah, see what I mean? Okay film, but kind of tough to actually praise. 6/10, better than expected, but totally unimpressive in the areas where it counts.

I'm actually so glad to see a review that's closer to the same page as me. I had zero interest in this until the suggestions from a few reviews about how it's setting & premise kind of placed it in the position of a soft Who framed Roger Rabbit sequel. So I watched it seeing the praise but halfway through finally understood why 90% of the related YT vids were either "Return of Ugly Sonic!1" or "References Compilation #9956". From the premise to the use of mixed media it really has the tools to go somewhere but just doesn't and lands at moderately better than complete dreck like Space Jam 2 or Tom & Jerry. Like instead of getting the band back together from the jump they instead just rope in a paper thin human detective to help them with the case. They reference Zipper & Gadget but neglect to go to them immediately when the 5th member of their on-screen family is kidnapped into a torturous fate & the threat has been overwhelming? Really? Hell, in the scene where they're about to join forces with the human officer, they say the word "bonkers" & I 100 % expected the next beat to be them deciding to bring in a fellow Disney Toon alum, Bonkers to help them on the case whose entire show was about being a toon cop solving toon crime which would have been really fun. But no they just get the generic human lady to be their superfluous third wheel. That so much speaks to your point where it feels like it could have been any characters in the role rather than Chip & Dale. Another misstep I think was Peter Pan (beyond the gross allusions to the original VA's life) just being an old dumpy thug which is the the weakest direction they could have gone. Why not do the more interesting thing and just leave him as the eternal kid except having grown a sadistic streak that fit the darker aspects that the character actually has. I actually read a manhwa a while ago that was a horror series with the premise of Peter Pan being a type of boogeyman figure that was really cool & they could have done something close here but didn't. Like in the mythology of the film it doesn't seem that old cartoons either in color or B&W get absolutely ancient & retain their original designs through the years...but they decided to break that mythos specifically for the one character it doesn't make sense to break it for. Honestly by the time they reach Dale's garage with his Rescue Rangers memorabilia, instead of watching the rest of the movie, I just felt like turning it off and just re-watching the actual series & Disney Afternoon's other gems. I'm glad others enjoyed it & I'll probably pick at the rest of it till I finish it but it is not as stellar as so many reviews seem to suggest to me. It almost has it but like you said, references aren't a substitute for compelling writing. Did love the new remix of the Rescue Rangers theme.

From the looks of it, it doesn't seem like cartoon characters can even age visibly for the most part, so why would Peter be the exception? Also given how everything in this movie is a reference they probably made Peter the antagonist because of the tragic story of his voice actor for way back when. If that's the case that's downright heartless

As for the 1980’s Simpsons cameo, I think I know how that could possibly make sense. Since the characters are actors in this universe, it’s possible that this was just them before they got the job and entered the spotlight. Although Chip and Dale were characters even before that so I dunno. I don’t think consistency was the first thing on the writers’ minds when making this film anyways. I thought it was okay. There was a lot of moments that made me eyeroll like when they acknowledge that people wouldn't like if they do something and then do it anyways, like the rapping thing or at the end of the movie where they talk about how people want to hear the original Chip 'n Dale theme instead of a pop-star version of it, but then play the pop-star version for the credits anyways. That and also Disney taking jabs at themselves, like when they included they referenced live action Lion King, it's like, yeah making fun of yourselves doesn't suddenly make live action remakes okay, Disney. Though it was funnier when they took jabs at things from other companies, like Ugly Sonic, which was actually kinda funny. But it was enjoyable for the most part. To be honest, even though I know it was the point, I honestly kinda wish all of the rescue rangers characters were just 2D looking. Not a bad movie imo. Ducktales 2017 knocked it out of the park with the casting for Huey, Dewey, and Louie. I would have **loved** a Chip & Dale 2D reboot series made by the DuckTales 2017 team, played straight with well thought out casting and no “chipmunk” effect at all, much like how the three nephews’ voices in DT2017 lost their “duckisms” but became very distinct from one another

It seriously is honestly shocking how many Disney deep-cuts they went for. Example: the tiger lady who speaks to Ugly Sonic is Tigra, a Marvel character. This version of her (and the pictures behind her) is directly ripped from the shitty first Avengers cartoon (United We Stand) from the 90’s, which has since become semi-obscure especially with Marvel’s recent mega-boom.

Honestly two things rubbed me the wrong way was the Peter Pan being the villain due to the history of Disney and them treating the original actor. The other was Gadget getting “ *FLYED* “ and the disgusting implications involved with a mouse birthing mutant fly-mouse hybrids. It makes it worse if you’ve been on the internet and have witnessed the “infestation” tag.

Every live-action/animation movie that has ever been made and all the future ones will forever remain under the shadow of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, a film that remembers that beneath all the fancy special effects and cameos what ultimately counts is having heart, great characters and an engaging plot. Why can't all these other ones do the same.

If you HAVE to like the movie, then you gotta love the aspect of forgotten cartoons never getting recognition or attention nowadays. I personally thought the movie was 6/10, the references was cool, never thought I'd say this but Ugly Sonic is the best character, the detective story was an eh? Didn't hate it or love it, it was just kinda there, and the whole aspect bootlegging being the worse form of punishment was kinda hilarious, just saying they should have kept the operation in China, they never would have guessed it. Again Subjectively the movie is 6 or 7 out of 10, Objectively.....probably a 5/10

I gotta say I genuinely enjoyed the film as sure there were tons of references in the film (one of which the whole internet won’t stop talking about which even then his portrayal was something that actually made people love the character) but they didn’t interfere with the flow of the movie and what they were going with, like the whole concept of Peter Pan as the main antagonist was a good concept and the whole idea for him to go forward attempting to make knock-off’s films to avoid licensing was genuinely a good twist then just “they dropped me so it’s revenge”, but for me after watching it I was more wondering how much licensing did they sign and agree too to green lit as the non-Disney characters being involved must of been difficult. Overall I’d say a solid 7.5/10, there was still things that it needed work on but I quite liked it a lot.

I just can't get over how bad the animation is. You would expect a movie that came out 34 years after Who Framed Roger Rabbit would look significantly better, not objectively worse. Even the cheap animation for He-Man from the early 80's looks better than their recreation of it.

@@maralmindeity5332 Some of it is a little better. The cel-shading is terrible, but even some of the flat 2D characters look cheap. Not bad coloring or line-work, just weirdly animated. Also, the greenscreen bodysuit shots with actual actors is just uncanny.

I'm gonna be honest, I love how the movie makes fun of other movies being "uncanny" when there are scenes not even referencing it that feel uncanny. The movie's plot didn't really do anything new, rather they went "hey, do you remember this movie". There are other movies that pull off crossovers better, such as Rodger Rabbit. There were also a few adult animation references that I didn't get. Big mouth being in a movie being marketed as PG really makes me wonder "why is this a thing"

I thought the movie was fun. I think it's world building has lots of potential. By the way, here are Some fun facts about the Hebrew cast: 1.Chip and Dale in the Hebrew dub are voiced by Danny Leshman and Dan Kiesler. Danny Leshman (Chip's Hebrew voice actor) is also the Hebrew voice of King (the Owl House), forky (toy story 4), timon (the lion guard and the lion king live action remake), flash (Zootopia) and Orson (the adventures of buck wild), while dan kiesler (dale's Hebrew voice actor) is the Hebrew voice of sonic (adventures of sonic the Hedgehog/wreck it Ralph), "why were you born" lovat (Coraline), Jay Gordon (Ninjago), bling bling boy (johnny test), Gideon gleeful (gravity falls), Eddie (ice age: continental drift and collision course), ron stoppable (kim possible), coby (one piece), blu (rio and rio 2), Rigby (regular show), Felix the cat (the twisted Tales Of Felix the cat), keroro (sgt.frog) and Theodore (ALVINNN!!! and The Chipmunks). 2. Sweet pete in the Hebrew dub is voiced by Gadi Levy, who is also known as the Hebrew voice of tom dupain (miraculous: tales of ladybug and cat noir), emperor belos, principal bump and Gilbert (all from the owl house), gus (rocket monkeys), Duncan MacDougall (Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore), chester v (cloudy with a chance of meatballs 2), discord (my little pony: friendship is magic), walter Jr. (Minions), Janitor Russ Poopatine (fanboy and Chum Chum), Leatherbeak (free birds), turner, rusty and abuelito (all from handy manny), Griffin the Invisible Man ((hotel Transylvania) along with the skeleton husband and a pilot), skully (jake and the Neverland pirates), Lorenzo Paguro (luca), dr. Randell mindy (don't look up) and would later become the Hebrew voice of Homelander (the boys).

to answer your question at 3:51. No not really, I'm one of the few people out there who has seen the older series back then when it was on television, it was one of my favorite cartoons of all time when I was little, but this movie is nothing like how the older series was, the whole movie is basically a whole big ass shitpost film that, I should like it for what it is. but because of it's rushed plot along with so many characters from different franchises. it felt like it was trying too hard to be cool with how meta they could be. and that made me roll my eyes, if there's something good that I could say about the movie, it's that it's making me wanna go back and rewatch the older series again for nostalgia reasons haha

I don't know... I think that you shouldn't give it points for being a big cross over, since it kind of felt like they were trying to be a Who Framed Rodger Rabbit 2. Kind of felt like they were forcing in references to other stuff, like different media's of animation and stuff to replicate it. With Rodger even appearing in the movie. Not sure though

I hate the fact that movies with lots of cameos or character crossovers are seen as movie company cash grabs or just them flexing their properties in your face for an hour and a half. I actually really love movies that do those types of things, including movies that feature real humans interacting with two dimensional cartoon characters, as long as it's not done in a crappy way or done in a way where it doesn't make sense. The chip and dale movie wasn't bad, but it was good. I love how they tried to have a world filled with characters with all kinds of different animation styles.

The movie was kinda fun, but I left with a few questions: 1. Why was Peter the only toon that aged? They showed one of the other kids from his movie in the modern day, and he was still a kid. 2. Why does the movie act as though Chip'n'Dale didn't exist before Rescue Rangers? They've been around longer than Disney's Peter Pan has. 3. If Peter's motivation for turning evil is dissatisfaction with his appearance, why didn't he just use that machine he owns that changes cartoon characters' appearances?

6:59 Nah this makes perfect sense. That Simpsons character wasn't in the show yet because like you said, the show didn't exist, it's because he's in school. It's the same for Chip and Dale, their show doesn't exist because they're just kids going to School. They just met each other there and the montage showed them building up to when they decided to make the show.

Peter doesn't even make sense as a villain. If we're supposed to believe it's the same universe as Who Framed Roger Rabbit, then how did he age in the first place? There's a whole scene in Roger where Baby Herman laments how he's an old man in a baby's body. Wouldn't that also happen to Peter? If not, why?

Whooo! I’m a huge fan of the original series and you touched on all of my issues. But yeah I came out as meh. I’ll admit the references were fun but not enough for me to praise it. Also the Bobby Driscoll Peter Pan thing bugged me from his first trailer appearance and gadget and zipper fucking kept me grounded the entire time as I couldn’t look passed it.
