I had cancer myself. Today, 6 years ago, I got my first chemo. I met a girl named Marena, she was singing this song next to me. We became close friends... untill she died, fifth of may, 2014. Her last words: "the hardest part of this... is leaving you." She was a true MCR fan. I miss my bestie everyday.

I can never hear this without crying. The song is beautiful. Two years ago in May my Grandma died. She was really sick and was even in a nursing home for a while. For Christmas actually. She always said she was hurting but my family brushed it off as her being dramatic. She was home for a while but she wasn't the same, she was seeing things and talking to air. one morning my mom found her coughing up blood so they called an ambulance. As they pulled up to the hospital my grandma started tearing up and begged my mom to take her home. But we didn't know what was going on so they took her in. She was diagnosed with Colon cancer. It was so far gone, it had travelled throughout her body; including her brain. It was too late to do anything to help her. No chemo, nothing. My uncle drove my other uncle and I to the hospital where they told us. I was really protective over my nana because our family treated her so badly. She was always a bit messed up; she was from England and witnessed WW2 as a kid. When the doctors told my grandma she was going to die, she was so peaceful. she didn't cry. a week later she was in the ICU completely unconscious. I sat there, listening to this on repeat, trying to comprehend what was happening. My aunt and mom made us all leave that night and I knew I would never see my grandma again. But unlike everyone else, I couldn't say bye. I couldn't say I love you. because if I were to talk, I would have broken down. I miss her. since then I've lost my uncle and my grandpa, but my grandma still hits me the hardest. I'm not looking for pity, I just want to show how this song is super important. It helped me through one of the hardest times of my life. Their music still keeps me alive, helps me cope. I miss them. But thank you for writing this song, it means a lot to me.

ChemicalSkeleton I'm so sorry to hear. I'm going through the same exact thing you're going through. Christmas break, both my grandmother from my mom's side and my grandfather from my dad's side had to be rushed to the hospital. My Popop had always been in a nursing home, due to a stroke and other complications. He passed last week. We didn't want to see him suffer anymore. He had pneumonia and a UTI. He was on life support, etc. Fast forward to now, my grandmother is diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. We don't know how much time she has left. Surgery isn't an option for her because she's so weak and frail. It hurts to see her. It hurts so much. 😔

Fuck. Everything about this is beyond perfection. The way Gerard seems so in the moment, the way everyone seems so in the moment. How Gerard's voice flows so beautifully throughout the lyrics. How, finally, there aren't any insanely loud instruments to cover up his voice. Only the piano to compliment his ever so slightly raspy voice, that still somehow sounds so velvety and soft, probably due to a mixture of coffee and cigarettes. And I won't even think of forgetting how, at the end, he pauses for the longest time, and let's the crowd's cheering sink in to himself, and everyone else. Then he finishes it off so wonderfully. I know I may have went overboard with the description of this entire performance, but oh my god. This is so unbelievably overwhelming to watch. I get choked up just trying to savor this. I can only imagine what their concerts are like.

anthony morales I think what it is is that most of the MCR fandom pretty much grew up listening to them without any real understanding of the real world around us. Like I didn't even know what cancer or diabetes was when The Black Parade was released because I was only 10 years old. Now that I'm 21 about to be 22 with friends who unfortunately have these diseaes, the song takes on such a different meaning and sentiment when you really pay attention to the lyrics. Why is everyone arguing about tøp's cover not being as good? Why can't you like both, or at least accept people's opinion? I'm a complete fan of both tøp and mcr, and yes it doesn't sound like the original. But I don't think the point of a cover is just to sing the exact same thing on the exact same music, a good cover is a cover that can put a whole new perspective on the song, and that's what tøp did in my opinion. While the original is sad and full of emotions, tøp's cover is almost "soulless", but that's a really good idea aswell if you think about the lyrics. Either way, people can like whatever they want and you don't have to make fun of them to make your own opinion valid.

Achlucide Ikr. I like both of them, they're both good.. these fandoms are triggered..
@frigidalsofutureless77458 жыл бұрын
Achlucide it's because the cover sounds too much like pop trash, trying to make a song that is literally about cancer seem like it belongs in the top 40. Like, way to depress the 10 year olds who discover track 11 on the second CD and find out that it's called Cancer and extremely depressing.
@Achlucide8 жыл бұрын
Frigid Also Futureless What you got here is called an opinion. Not an international truth.
@frigidalsofutureless77458 жыл бұрын
Achlucide I see that, and I respect your opinion, and I should have made it clear that it is an opinion. And, despite what I believe about the cover, I find it to be rather enjoyable at times. However I very much prefer the original song, as sung by My Chemical Romance.

This song was a beautiful song from the beginning, but it wasn't one of my favourites until about 2 weeks ago. I have a cousin (5 years old) who was just diagnosed with leukemia, I got the news and immediately burst into tears and was thrown into this huge state of depression, so bad that I could barely covince myself to get out of bed to do something simple, like brush my teeth or go to the bathroom. As I do so much of the time, I turned to music for consolation, this song came on and I was crying so much, but the raw emotion put into this song was beautiful, and helped me realise that I'm not alone with this. I'm still not completely better, which seems so freaking stupid, talking about my cousin dealing with CANCER of all horrible things that could happen to her, and being so depressed that I can't work up the courage to get out of bed. Thank you Gerard, MCR, and everybody behind the production of this song, for helping me through this difficult time in my life. Words cannot express the emotions that I'm feeling and the struggles that everybody in my family has been dealing with, but music has been such a grounding point for me, and the number of times this has kept me grounded is unspeakable, uncountable. I really hope that Paisley (My cousin) gets better, but we can't be sure right now. If you read this, thank you, it felt good to be able to vent. I hope that your lives haven't been quite so hard and that you are having a good new year!

I watched my mother who had stage 4 colon and stage 3 liver cancer slowly die. This song is exactly how she felt. She wanted nobody to see her. She was so sick. she couldn't move. She was bald. I watched her slowly die It was horrible. She wanted to die and get away from the pain and suffering but she didn't want to leave her husband and children. But this song is amazing. MCR has been there and helped me with everything. They always manage to trap my feelings perfectly into song lyrics.

I think I definitely prefer this to tøp's version, even though I love tøp, this just has so much more feeling for me. Gerard's voice really carries the ebbs of anger, desperation and sadness that goes with each syllable and he makes me really feel the song so much. Another part of it is that tøp have lengthened the song, when it was supposed to be short to represent how little time the person had left to live.

From someone who watched his father fight cancer for 5 years, I can say that this speaks to my soul. I met this song during my father's treatment, but when I look back, I don't remember this moment as something sad. Yes, It did destroyed me inside that time, but now when I listen to it I just can remember my father's victory in one of the most difficult fights that exist.
