The project is coming along really well. Thought I might share a technique that I've just started using... Just recently I was working on a derelict corvette with rust undercoat in exposed areas, chipping medium and dull light blue top coat. I wanted to create some stains down the paint from the rusting post chipping. I ended up pulling out my set of Conte (dry pastels) and scraping the edge with the hobby blade to create a fine powder, so basically a dry pigment. I then used foam eye make-up applicators to transfer the pigment to the model and streak in the direction of flow of water to create the "filtered streaks" of rust. It worked so well that I then used some black/grey Conte to do some post shading around key areas to give false shadows and add plenty of depth where needed. Whites for some subtle highlights too. The great thing i found with this technique is that I had great control simply based on pressure and number of passes I made. As I have a set of maybe 20 Conte pastels I now have a completed colour gamut and shading palette at my disposal.

That sounds very nice, like a very controllable technique!!! And you can wipe the pigments away, if your not happy... thanks a lot for sharing!!! ‼️

Thanks for tuning in again, Adrian! Let's see how much the dust and dirt will cover the weathering I made so far...

Thank you DenXio!!! I've see a lot of these chipping-methods on gunpla and maschinenkrieger models... Someday I'll do a MaK-Kit. I love their design!

@@AirandGroundinScale, yeah! Weathering in gunpla has a different approach. It's kinda difficult for me because you have to do the chipping/weathering smaller and in scale than we usually do in AFVs. I'm done with my Master Grade 1/100 Zaku Cannon. I don't if I made it right. 😁 Now I'm finishing the video for upload.

Awesome build! I appreciate all of these tips as I'm a beginner. Quick question, you do the chipping after the panel line wash? And if so, did you have to aoply another varnish coat over the panel lines before the chipping? Thanks again!
@AirandGroundinScale
@AirandGroundinScale Жыл бұрын
Very nice, that you get something out of my videos and thank you for your question!!! Normally I would apply the panel line wash after the chipping, to get the most contrast out of the panellines and shapes of the model. But I don't apply another varnish coat between these two stages. Because I'll do the chipping most times with acrylic or these weathering pencils and the washes with oil paints and these medias don't interfere with each other. Have a nice weekend!!!
