I've met them both recently and talked with them for quite a while. These aren't your average Hollywood types. Very conservative, not what a lot of people think. Larry is a pilot and hotrodder and Erik is still a police officer in Virginia catching online child predators. He's been doing that kind of work for decades now. Very dedicated. Both are great guys.

Introduced Chips to my kids a few years ago and they were hooked. My 16 year old asked why they don't have good shows like this today.
@kettch777 Жыл бұрын
The simple reason is they started making shows more about the "right" politics than about entertainment and telling good stories. Sure, TV back then wasn't as realistic, but it was great fun. The A-Team, CHiPs, TJ Hooker, Miami Vice, Knight Rider, the list of great shows from that era is massive. Now all they care about is political dreck and terrible writing.

return to the 1970s? No thanks. Double Digit inflation. Double Digit Interest Rates. Gas lines. The Misery Index. The most horrible fashion era ever. outside of a handful of artists, bad music. Disco. The K-tel hits of AM radio. TV and movies had to be good, there was only 3 channels, and people couldn't afford to do anything so watching TV was it...oh and TVs...? If you were upper middle class you might have a 27in console TV, otherwise TVs were usually 13in or 19in, and you had to often put tin-foil on the rabbit ear antennas and many of them still had tubes you had to take down to the Woolworths to test and replace when your image started to fade or have snow. I'll pass. :)

SO this was about 17 years after CHiPs went off the air, and (in 2021) it's been 22 years since this 'reunion'? Jesus I'm old. Always loved this show, it may have been kitschy and contrived but as a young one growing up in the 1970s and 80s, there weren't many real tv shows that I was allowed to watch. To think, this show - and The Dukes of Hazzard, Knight Rider - helped to shape my childhood! Who wouldn't have wanted to be one of these guys? The cool shades, the bikes, putting bad guys away, bosses that were easily manipulated, and always getting the girls...CHiPs had me hooked! I know the show was fake, unrealistic and a glossy facsimile of what being a real motorcycle officer is actually like, but this show - and its iconic intro/theme music - will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart. Baker and Ponch were the best! I cannot be the only one that hums the theme song in my head when I am in California and actually see motorcycle officers...

Got into motorcycle riding back in the 80s after watching this as a kid in the 70s. As a kid i would hop on my bike and hum the tune. Now as a full grown ass man not a shame to say will once in a while whistle the tune while riding my motorcycle.... Every time i do so it takes me back to doing the same on my bicycle riding days and crack a big old stupid smile. 👊😎👍

CHiPs was a great show but it began after "Starsky & Hutch" & it was No. 1 in my book. Anyway, Erik Estrada & Larry Wilcox in real life did not have the ongoing friendship that David Soul & Paul Michael Glaser had. He was the coolest guy every, so nice and polite. We asked what he was doing, not that it was any of our business, but he had no problem telling us. He was on his way to some new resort to do some commercials he also was doing a lot of directing that kept him very busy. We sat and talked to him for a good 30 minutes until they called for his flight. We took a picture with him before he left. What a great experience that was. He was so humble.
