Hey CPBBD, I'm a fairly new subscriber but I wanted to let you know that you have brought my family a little closer. The story is that, no thanks to my being a POS, my children and I are mostly estranged but we do talk sometimes and earlier this week I had the opportunity to talk to my daughter (who lives in England, I'm in the US) and she mentioned that she saw one of your videos I had posted on facebook. She informed me that she's a fan and even owns some of your merch, or at least a shirt. She went on to describe a recent encounter with an estate manager she had when she was doing a bit of guerrilla gardening at the edge of her housing estate. nothing serious, she got moved along and told it's a waste of time as it was shortly becoming a shopping mall or some such but for about 5 minutes we laughed and talked about you and your channel. The thought that something as silly as finding out you share a youtube channel in common isn't anything special but that it could help bridge a gap of 4k miles and years of failure and allow me to hear my daughter laugh still makes me choke up. Anyway, I'll be forever grateful. thank you.

I just took out over 60 giant mullein plants in an area that burned a few years ago in Arizona. I will continue the fight because of what you taught me. I thought they were cool fuzzy plants that i could wipe my butt with on a hike if needed, i will do that, but also destroying as many as I can that seem to be competing with natives. There are seriously thousands here, so I can't get them all, but I'm doing my part to thin the population in an area that was once very diverse. Being there's a creek and its on the edge of where cactus meets pine, this is a special area thats being overrun by these bastards, but thanks to you for informing me, their population is now in decline.
@calamagrostis884 жыл бұрын
This sort of hand weeding habitat restoration is a great way learn to recognize different species and distinguish the natives from the invasives. It is really rewarding to rip out a huge weed and find a tiny native plant underneath that was struggling to survive.

@@wildedibles819 Ha yes I've joked about the TP already. I layed them out in full sun and it's supposed to get around 100 this week, so they should die. Only a few had started to flower. I think the best way to destroy them at this point is machete when they do flower before they go to seed. They are eveywhere in this creek bed and the seeds are only going to wash down stream eventually. I read the seeds can last for up to 100 years.

Then fucks off on a skate board. This is good. I know the natural areas are your favorite; but i love these urban videos where these amazing plants got snuck in under the planners' and landlords' noses and grow like all hell. You can always escape the environment that late capitalism imposes (if you can afford it), but that doesn't change or counteract it. Subversion is far more powerful, as a measure of fighting back. We need much more of it.

20,000 blocks west of Western, and all around this fucking lithosphere, there is a guy named Tony, absolutely owning it. Owner of knowledge. Distributor of wisdom, knowledge, and pretty fucking right on world views, in my opinion. You are speaking my language (botanical and geological that is), and your videos are the FIRST videos, that I have watched on anything in about six years. Just been rabid for Botany after attending Merritt College 2012-2014. Shout out Glenn Keator and Stew Winchester.... I'm like a rogue Botanist or something... You can find me crawling under stiff Chaparral plants in Marin County, looking for historical occurences of County or Listed Rare plants... Like Ceanothus velutinus..... I've searched my ass off for that in recent years... A Bay Area Puma Project buddy, put me on to you about a month ago... I sent the link to your house mate, DG (didnt know he was your roomate).... You should come make an episode in the wondrous Big Carson area below San Geronimo Ridge/Pine Mountain... The spot with Rana boylii, Cirsium hydrophilum vaseyi, Aquilegia eximia, Lilium paradlinum, Angelica tomentosa etc... Plus that area is a dreamland for Silene californica.... Surprising I cant find any Epiopactis there, as there is a bunch not too far in almost identical habitat, below Carson Ridge... Just did my annual, probably futile search, for Pityopus californicus, in the Big Carson area, where it was last seen in 1989. Ask DG about me.... He'll tell you what a weird fucker I am (he and I are acquaintances). I'm just a plant and rock obsessed loner, who tries to teach like you do, but to no one/camera, when I'm out there... Long winded way of saying to you, THANK YOU! Your videos speak to me, make me laugh, and make me happy. -Hunter

I'm curious if you have any experience with Chiranthodendrons or Chiranthofremontia lenzii in wind. I live slightly north of Oakland and have a Chiranthofremontia lenzii about 1/2 mile from the bay front. It's 4 years old and has reached ~25' tall multiple times but the wind blowing off the bay has knocked it flat three times. I've cut it down each time (25' of itchy itchy foliage) and left it to resprout from a few feet of trunk, which it faithfully does. I love the tree so don't want to give up but I'm not sure how to help it. The bark is far too delicate to stake the tree in any way.

Hmm androgynophore is one term I somehow missed in my classes! Would the orchid column also fall under that classification maybe not as it seems to only apply to a superior ovary so no. So does it apply to milkweeds then? I saw those white things on the seeds - eliasomes, called it! :D Surprising to see them in a tree, fascinating that they're eaten by birds. Great image of the fruit capsule! The intergeneric hybrid comparison with the two parent species was amazing. Bravo! Also LMAO on your subtitles. ;)
