I enjoyed watching the video and being shown how the equipment works. I live in Arkansas and just purchased a new turning plow to compliment my tiller, and middle buster. I only have a small area to farm and once I have the money, I will purchase a cultivator to finish up my collection. The problem here is finding equipment for small farming. Most of the farmers in the region are working areas about like you explained in the video and growing only one or two crops each season commercially.

I use a 309 Ford planter was made in the fifties I got it from a local guy here it has been kept in the barn its whole life probably hadn't been used more than 20 times and I got two sets of cast iron plates for squash and pumpkins and big seeds like that and then I got a set of corn and bean plates for it it works beautifully and I only paid $100 for it and it is incomplete perfect working order

I also have a hard yellow clay soil on a lot of my sweet corn ground so I have to moldboard plow at least once a year to incorporate and just to keep my ground loose compaction is my worst enemy here and not just that but weed control is very tough here

Do the chisel plows really work that well in rocky soil? We pick rocks every year but we use a 3 bottom plow, then harrow, and it brings up more rocks every year. Are rocks up to about 1 foot going to move through that kind of chisel plow?

i'm more of a believer with no-plow. you may need to wait a little longer in the spring for the soil to warm up, but you're better off in the long run for soil health. all that machinery and the cost that you have to pass onto the consumer. not digging it so much (pun intended).

Why rent? Might as well buy one. Because you know what? Rock picking isn't just a "one and done" deal. You'll be picking rocks every year.
