I love specialising in orthopedics. Can you please make a video of the steps you need to take to specialize at any specialty. What is required, how long does it takes...?

Will do so. I'll include all specialties. So you basically do internship, comserve, then MO. You then have to try find an MO post in Ortho to gain experience. Then to increase your chances you can write Primaries in ortho or diploma. When you have that then apply for reg post. Some people are lucky to get a registrar post without primaries etc. So the reg program (to specialise) takes 4 years. You write exams and research during the time until you graduate. Then Wala you're FCP(Ortho)😉

🥺😉 thanks.... Psych is not that bad in terms of competitiveness. Most people get a Diploma in mental health or will try get an MO post and are then absorbed easily into reg posts.

Can you talk about specialisation route in SA. Primaries, study leave etc.

I have a video on in and a link for CMSA with the specific specialist primary exams and requirements etc. Study leave is 15 days a year. Usually you'll get 2 days off before the exam. Some departments will give you more 'off the record'

Grade 11 looking forward to doing neurosurgery. I have found out that it is in demand but what's your take on it on it's stance at least 10 years from now?

Hi Matome so there'll always be a demand. The new trend is that some also do courses and do spine ops (to get more work in private). I advise you pick electives in neurosurg when in medschool so you get to see if it's what you like or enjoy☺️

Yes approach anyone unless they specified on whether public or private etc

Hey Doc. How did u end up being a casualty MO? U said u r lazy and I remember in ur other videos u said casualty is busy. Was it an area of need also hence u were thrown there, or did u choose an open post?

I say I'm lazy in that I prefer chilled environments but we take what's available unfortunately 🤣🤣. I also low-key like the ER🙊. Also where I work it's not as busy Paeds and Internal medicine are somewhat worse than casualty

Hi... So all levels. Interns are mainly in tertiary or regional but during certain blocks like family medicine they rotate through district hospitals and CHCs and clinics.

Hell Dr Ann🌻... When you are now a MO.... Can you choose which department you like to work at or as you said that they just throw you where you are needed (basically you become an all department stock😂 & should know everything)?

A follow up qestion... The salary you earn is it a good step up compared to being a comserve dr or even an intern

To question 1. Most rural or district or regional will throw you wherever 🤣 but you can swap with another MO or try move but when there's a need they won't allow you to move. At times while settled in another they can decide to move you on the basis that it's not a specialised facility 🤞🏽. Tertiary hospitals /facilities with specialists or reg training they don't do that.

I think you do. It's full time and there's labs etc. It can get hectic 🤞🏽
