I bought my favorite purse ever, at the Good Will about 3 years ago. I had a man, who makes horse saddles, to adjust it for me some. He has since passed (unexpectedly) and one of the buttons broke, that he added, but i will hold onto that purse as long as i can. 😊

You truly look very pretty in green. It is your color. Hearing you tell about the old stores back in the day reminds me of when I was little we would go to the old country store and get into the old outside icebox with the ice water where the drinks were at. That was always the coldest water,so you know that the RC and the Pepsi were going to be really cold when you got them. Your mouth would always water by the time you would get to the little icebox, knowing how cold the drink would be . The other memory that comes to mine is the moon pies. 😊. Those were the days for sure. You always tell the best stories and the way you tell them is why it’s the best.😊. Thank you for sharing your stories ♥️. God bless you and have a wonderful day…..♥️🍃🎄🍃♥️

We had a little grocery store in our little small town in Arkansas that sold baby chickens 🐓! The store owner was a man and his wife. Mr. & Mrs. Benett ! They sold everything imaginable! I loved that little ole couple!! Their store was at the bottom of the hill from where I grew up! Me and my brother & sister would go there every day except Sunday or whenever they were closed! They were very religious and closed on Wednesday for prayer meeting! Wonderful memories!!🥰😇

Oh my goodness, Granny Pat, you are so wonderful to listen to your stories. They invoke so many nemories for me. Driving down dirt roads, old country stores, family reunions with so much good home cooked food and desserts, visiting with cousins who visited our family farm almost every weekend, and my mother always fried chicken and made roast beef, creamed corn and green beans that had been cooked all day the day before, and plenty of good old sweet tea. I had an uncle that would always pay me a nickle for each glass of ice water l would bring him while hes sitting in our back yard under the huge pecan trees talking with my daddy. I could go to the country store about a mile away from our house and bring home a nice bag of penny candy after l had enjoyed a cocacola with a bag of peanuts in it at the store. I loved going there and admiring some little red high heel shoes made just for a little girl. I never did get those shoes though. Speaking of goodwill, its my favorite store and l once went into one just a few years back when l had no dryer, but needed one. Lo and behold, they had one for just $50! And it was a gas dryer that l needed too. Luckily my husband and l were drivong the truck that day and l got to bring the best bargain lve ever found at a Goodwill home with me. Still using that same dryer today! When we got married 14 years ago this past Wednesday, 11-29-23, l bought all his nice shirts and the suit he wore For our wedding at a Goodwill in Sugarland, Tx where we had travelled to visit with my son. Those were the best Goodwill stores lve ever been to. My last trip to Goodwill netted a complete set of professional chef cookware, lids and all for only $20. Was worth hundreds!!❤ love that you are a thrifty shopper also. You are wearing one of my favorite colors!❤please tell us more stories soon. You are the best storyteller of all time❤love you GP l feel like you are my granny since l never knew my own grandma. Mamas mom died when she was only ten and my other granny died when l was only two but she had dementia really bad. Now my only sister is 75 and has dementia. Its so sad. My dad died when lm only ten and his was Alzheimers. I had to bathe, shave and dress him. Im glad l could do that for him. Im 68 now and l need help bathing and dressing myself. Take care of yourself. Be bl❤essed.

We held Sunday picnics at city or state parks. Usually MIL’s side of family and the food was potluck style and I don’t remember ever having anything was anything but delicious! All the cousins, aunts and uncles sat at those long picnic tables and visited king hours after everyone had more than eaten their full. We drank gallons of ice tea. All sort of desserts and if we were luck….homemade hand cranked ice cream. Oh that was a treat. Good Memories!!!

I remember the old country stores. When I was growing up, there was an old country store within walking distance of our house. I remember the old drink boxes, cheese sitting out on the counter, candy behind a glass display, etc. Our Mama would give us a quarter and sometimes only a dime when we would walk to the country store. We could buy a lot with our change. Time sure has changed. I was born in the country, and I still live in the country. I wouldn't have it any other way.❤

Granny Pat YOU are beautiful and please believe that. Today’s story brought back so many memories from NE Arkansas where I grew up. We had spam growing up and we loved it. We had bologna sandwiches too but I’ve never like them. My grandparents had sandwiches on Friday nights and would stop by the store and buy lunch meat and chips and my grandpa always got a 3 Musketeer candy bar. We also had sodas on Friday nights too. Sundays after church was always fried chicken. How I wished I could go back to those days. I love country stores on dirt roads and rides in cars without air conditioning. The heat didn’t bother me likes it does now. THANK YOU for all these stories as you will never know how much pleasure you give this good old country girl. Love you to pieces. ❤️

My grandmother worked for the military in the Yukon during WWII. She ate spam a lot. When she came home to Colorado, she couldn’t wait for her mother’s cooking. When she came in her family home everyone gathered for dinner. Her mother said look what we have for dinner, it was Spam! She was so sad,but didn’t say a word….her mother had saved her food rations to make a special homecoming! Spam!

She wound tell the kids "don't slamm the door". There was a hornets nest in the back yard..hundreds of them. The men gather up bits of sticks and charcoal lighter and set it on fire. Oh my. 6:00 That tears it! Lately I've stumbled across articles mentioning Spam, in it's form and now many flavors. Some of them have discussed ways of preparing Spam. AND NOW YOU'VE brought it up in your story! Well, that tears it, I've got to get my hands on a can. I haven't ate any Spam for 40 years. But it seems "the internet" is telling me something. 12:53 Sleeperdude and his family are carrying on the tradition of Vienna sausages & RC cola. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d2LEoYOGrpWpgpIsi=1_bl44HQ1u_jSInK&t=3126 22:11 I remember my mother sending me down to our little local store, when I was a kid. I remember it to this day, "Paulson's Friendly Market". I really liked it when I had some extra cash or empty pop bottles to turn in for spending change. The candy I bought from there seemed better than anywhere else. That's a smart looking outfit you've put together this evening. 🙂 I love it so much when you talk about your mom and dad, when you were growing up. I can only imagine how much you miss them.

I loved the stories about country stores. I was blessed to live close to a couple of country stores when I was younger. We also had a man named George that drove a bus filled with all kinds of things and he would come around to our homes on certain days. He had the best tasting candy, cookies and drinks. Those were fun times for us kids to be able to get a treat. It may have been just a piece of bubble gum and then we would practice for hours learning how to blow a bubble 😅 Oh the simple life, it might not have been for our parents, but when you are a child we didn’t think about hardships. Love your stories ❤

Another great story about the "good ole days!" Thank you!! I live in a very small town of about 2700 people on the Western Slope of Colorado. We have one grocery store called the Merc, one gas station, one Main Street about 2 blocks long, one red light, one coffee shop, one bar, a few doctors, and two thrift stores. My favorite saying is "the nice thing about living in a small town is that when you don't know what you're doing, someone else does." 😂 An intriguing ending...can't wait! Loved the story as always! You painted a memory of the old country store that took me straight back to my childhood. We bought our groceries from a country store. Mama wrote a “memorandum” not a shopping list!, on the back of an envelope. I remember the pop box filled with cold drinks. You lifted the lid and reached in for one. 10 cents a piece. The glass case with fresh meat and cheese,, hoop cheese. The heater sitting over to the side with chairs around it that men sat in on the nightly gossips. Jars of penny candy. 5 cent Zero bars. 10 cents Baby Ruth’s. Men’s coveralls. Boxes of nails. I hadn’t thought of those memories in 50 years! Thank you for recreating it for me. ❤

We have Amish relatives on my Grandpa’s side so we went to many Amish reunions. They were awesome and you couldn’t beat the delicious food!

Ms.Pat, I was thinking the long tables could have been flat bed wagons borrowed from farmers because we have done that for large gatherings.. So many of our old time Mom and Pop stores have closed and our sense of community has been lost too! That was where you found out community news, who was sick, needed help, etc. Farmers would go there to see if there were any men or boys available to help with tobacco or hay, etc. A lot has been lost in American Culture since our old country stores have closed!!❤

Very nice recount of travels to the country. As a kid I had the chance to visit many of those old country stores and we didn’t have money to eat in restaurants. We had cheese, summer sausage and crackers off the tailgate of an old Chevy and off the glove box door! We all want you to know this, just tell your mind and heart ❤️ there’s no need to have a narrative schedule. Me and so many thousands just want to hear your dear voice and wisdom!

My Uncle Glen, my Mama’s brother had an old country store up a little ways from our house. I love going to his store. Not just because it was my uncle’s store but because it was just like the old country store you describe .Hope you have a happy Christmas .

I remember those days and times. I, too, loved the old General Stores whenever we came across one. Keep telling your stories. They bring such good memories to mind. Take care, and God bless you. P.S.-Yes, you are beautiful and love your blouse and glasses.
