What a lovely story. I found your channel a few weeks ago and I love it. Your stories remind me much of my mother's stories. I am not 80 yet, but turned 50 a few months ago and so many things you say resonate with me in my changing life and I love listening to you talk at night before bed. MUCH better than the other negative stuff I used to watch on youtube, like NEWS..Thank you for telling us your life stories and sharing what you do.

I am sure you were as beautiful back then as you are now yes it’s true a beautiful face is beautiful but a beautiful soul now that never grows older never withers nor fades and that’s the most amazing thing about life is we can always go back and remember a time when we were younger and embrace all the changes we’ve faced along the way but we know inside we are still who we’ve always been and that at any age we can feel beautiful and blessed and we can make a difference in the world 🌎 everyday Thank you for making a difference in my life and countless others as well!!!!!!!!

Hi Sweet GP! I loved that story. Very compelling to me because I also had(have) a sleeveless black velveteen dress with scattered rhinestones on the bodice...not gaudy but sophisticated looking. Timeless style. I bought the dress in the 1990s for a fancy corporate Christmas party. I felt exactly the same way about my dress as you did yours. I love it still. It still hangs in a dress bag in my closet. I take a peek at it every few years and sigh. It is as beautiful as the day I bought it. I can't bring myself to let it go. It's vintage now...as am I. 😂 Have a wonderful Sunday. ❤🐝fromColorado.

Being a preachers kid, of the stories we lived through. I know the value of anything but a wood cut out toilet seat as well! What did impact me so much was travelling the country, visiting so many Baptist church’s “ Many in Kentucky and Tennesee” and enjoying, learning dishes and recounting what they meant to us as, broke travelling missionaries. I know you stunned the world in your black velvetine dress. All of us fans are so blessed to have you as our wise and delightful storyteller. How I remember the days of a cold house in the winter time. We had space heater in every room and a floor furnace in the middle of the house, but my grandparents were so frugal-the only time she would allow the house to be very warm was Thanksgiving and Christmas and then she would complain about how high the gas bill was going to be the entire time!!! I don’t know how we kept from freezing to death!!!!! We never slept with any heat unless it got extremely cold, and there would be so many quilts on the bed you could hardly turn over or even get out of the bed once you got in. The floor furnace was the only heat source back then that was properly vented so we had to be very careful about using those space heaters at night. I live in the same house today, and thank goodness we have a modern heating and cooling system now so that we are always warm or cool year round. My grandmother would definitely think we are being far too extravagant…!!! Bless her heart…I can hear her chastising me in my head so many times as I do so many things she would have considered extravagant and wasteful. You told us another wonderful story!!! Thank you so much!!!!!

I live in Anderson County, KY.....could that community had been Defoe *pronounced D-foe? I love your stories and so many I can relate to. I'm 63 yrs but totally know what you are speaking of: outhouses, no running water, coal stoves and kerosene lamps. I look back on those memories and they make me smile not sad at all, we were raised poor but everyone around us was poor too so we didn't even realize others had more than us. I would not trade that upbringing for anything, our greatest wealth was the fact we knew we were loved- so many kids today raising themselves with no one that gives a flip about them. Sad world we live in now and will only get worse. Thanks for the entertaining videos! Merry Christmas!

I know exactly what you mean about ‘the’ dress. When I was in my twenties, I was at a new job. One day I was shopping for work clothes when I came across a blue silk dress that took my breath away. It was considerably more expensive than anything I had bought previously. I held my breath and I bought that dress and I have always loved it. Well, that was about 40 years ago and I long ago grew out of that dress. But I still think about to this day.

I've been enjoying your videos for some time now, and I thought I ought to tell you so. I've all 3 of your books; I get them on Kindle, because I can make the print as large as I need, and the Kindle is much lighter to hold for my arthritic hands. I'm about 10 years behind you, will be 79 in January, but my folks were both from the south, my Daddy from Georgia, and mama from Texas, and we do share a lot of memories, although some traditions are a bit different. I enjoy the fact that you speak slowly; goodness, young folks talk so *fast* these days, I'm continually having to tell my nephew to _slow down!_ I've had a bunch of health issues this year, I don't need to go into that - we all have 'em, so lets move on😉 I'm looking forward to 2024 being better. I'm hoping to feel well enough to do some Christmas baking this year, and perhaps some decorating, which I have not been able to do for about the past 4 or 5 years. I love watching you cook, and you move nice and slow, so I'm thinking I could probably do that! Unfortunately all my life I had one speed and it was fast, so adjusting is challenging. I am what we used to call a "spinster" lady, but have been blessed with some wonderful nephews and a niece and 3 great niece and nephews. They sure keep you young! I had forgotten how we wore jewellery back in the day - I gave all mine away some time ago, but I still have a couple of rings and especially Christmas pins - I want to look those up tomorrow - time I put one on my coat as I go out. Thanks again Grannie Pat for the lovely chit chat and memories! Auntie Erin
