Cool place to visit. Nice to see a boat going through. As always, the history you shared is appreciated. 👍

Thanks for watching! I knew a little about these locks, but bought a book about them at the visitor center gift shop, and learned so much more! There were arguments for years about where the locks should go - mostly because of who owned the land around each proposed site haha. Everyone wanted it on their property to capitalize off it. 😆

Thanks for watching and commenting! This place is a great area to bird as well, but not as much activity on this particular day. I'll have to go back when the heron rookery is busy. 🙂

It really is - I could spend hours just watching all the business, different boats, all the working parts, etc. Not my typical environment, but so interesting. Have a great weekend!

I lived in Michigan for a bit, but we didn't make it to Soo Locks. I saw some photos when I was trying to get more info on the Chittenden Locks. So many interesting places to visit out there! Have a great weekend!

Hi guys - one of my favorite places in Seattle! When we were kids we would go have a picnic and watch the boats coming and going! We’d also try to see some salmon at the fish ladder too. Thanks for all the historical info- I’ve never looked into the history or management of the Locks. The arboretum looks beautiful and relaxing! Sorry to hear about the weather issues and downed trees… Hope it gets cleared up soon. 👌 Jen 😄

That would be a great place for a picnic. In warmer weather you could really spend a lot of time watching all the boats coming and going while you ate. More boats coming through in the summer too. I'd kind of like to take my kayak through and see what it's like. My mom said I went through the locks on my grandpa's boat when I was 7 or so, but I don't remember that at all ☹

@ Would be fun if they had an old photo! I’ve seen kayaks go through, sometimes tied up to the side of a small boat. There’s lots of boat traffic on the long summer days! 👌☀️☀️

Reminded of growing up very close to the Erie Canal Lock E20 in Marcy, NY, part of the New York State Barge Canal system. My dad loved to watch the boats go through. A Chinese junk boat went through once, that was some real small town excitement. Stay warm!

Oh that would be a really cool place to grow up near. Canals and locks are so interesting, with so much always going on. That would have been really neat to see a Chinese junk go through!
