They all killed it, but damn Chloe’s voice acting skills are insane. Her effortless delivery for Nimoma’s chaotic lines bring so much life to this project (gorgeous animation aside). Stellar job to the whole Nimona team 🔥

I've admired Eugene for many years for a lot of reasons. Casting him as Goldenloin makes a lot of sense, as Eugene has always been open about the pressure of living up to people's expectations at being the best at everything but also using his platform to fight for what was right. I was afraid that I would only hear Eugene, but as soon as I heard him speak I only heard Ambrosius and that takes some serious talent. I'm so, so proud of him! He truly deserves this!

It really drives the story home too once you learn that Disney was trying to shut it down!! It speaks to the resilience we see with all of our main characters and with the community they represent, Nimona really is a game-changer and other studios should start taking notes.

This is too progressive AND violent for the current Disney animated brand, even I could see that and respect that, they would have to choose one or the other and to tone down the amount of affection. Their animation skews younger, they leave the live action to be more adult. YOU and I were ready and waiting for this but most of America isn't and aren't gonna be til gen z has positions of power instead of freaking old as the hills Bobs lmao It will do well, even better on Netflix which skews older and more progressive. We could even get a sequel if we rally behind it long term. Just bc Disney isn't quite there yet doesn't mean parts of the world aren't
@DreamcastFreak
@DreamcastFreak Жыл бұрын
@nailinthefashion agreed that this wouldn't fully fly under Disney's brand, but it would fit under Fox for sure. I'm glad it was able to be released either way, I just hope it doesn't get buried. Honestly, I think this movie deserves an Oscar for the story, animation, AND acting! It's that good!

So happy this film survived the Disney purge. The combination of medieval and techno aesthetics was so refreshing, I hope we see more original works like this in the future. And the story, while simple, was exactly what we need more of these days. My only critique is that I wished it was a miniseries instead of a movie, Nimona and Balaster’s relationship felt a bit rushed, but ultimately I’m grateful for what we got😁👍

Yess, I said the same thing to my friends. I think a miniseries would've helped a lot with those developments, being able to hang a bit more on some parts. I still really enjoyed the film though. I hope we get more animation from this franchise somehow

I didn't really felt that? I felt their relationship is going the pace it should be cause they felt the same thing, and talk a lot. And I'm guessing it's much more than days since they meet. You just don't feel how much time it is cause many things happen

ND Stevenson is definitely one of the best pioneers of queer representation in animation (and literature!!) and he is unashamed of it. I fell in love with She-Ra: POP and will never forget the tears I shed when I watched Catra and Adora share a genuine, loving kiss during the last season. Then watching Nimona, I was taken aback by how CLEAR and BLATANT the representation was like the first ten minutes you get your main queer couple. Then it just dives deeper into the complicated way society is when they see us and Nimona represents all of that freedom and rage and love and talks about big complicated society things in such a clear way that I can't wait to show the kids in my life and my future kid. This whole team is a huge reminder that we're still here and no matter what institutions try to get rid of us, we'll always come back. Just like Nimona :)

Talking about the transformation sequences and actually frame by framing them is great. I can see how depending on the scene there were different choices on approaching it, like gently transforming down from the gorilla to human is shrinking down into that shape and then very quickly changing the features, whereas from whale to rhino in the middle of the action sequence there's this really funny animation of her curling into almost a blob of bouncy play-doh for a frame before rolling out into a rhino.

The actors were well casted, they even got not only the same expressions compared to the animated characters, but also the same energy and the acting itself during the dubbing shown. Look like all the characters were created as the Ambrosius one, based on who will dub it. This made the story so true and genuine.

I think this movie did a really good job on playing on a “you can be whoever you want to be, and if you love it and is not hurting anyone (like nimonas shapeshifting wasn’t originally) then you deserve to live peacefully” kind of troupe because it can really be taken in a universal perspective with the anyone who’s been treated badly because they don’t fit into a mold

Speaking of which [SPOILERS] I really like how much they slowly ramped up showing how powerful she is. Like at first she just seems like a teenage human that can shapeshift, then it seems like she can't really be permanently injured (or at least it really hard to, she may be able to *willingly* hurt herself though like it seemed she was going to at the end) and gets impaled with a sword in the administrator's office without issue, can turn into some *huge* things, then she turns out to be a several thousand years old and is some seemingly demi-god-esque nonhuman entity that only *choses* to take the form of a human most of the time.

When I watched the movie the first time, I didn‘t even think about it being about queerness or anything related to it. Everything was so authentic and well-made, it‘s just a great film for everyone. I loved the movie and wanted to find out more, which is how I discovered the amazing story behind the scenes.

Nimona is one of my favourite characters EVER. She is just genuine. Says what she feels when she wants, and even then she is not unkind or rude. She might be dismissive, cheeky or satiric; but she isnt mean because is not in her. She is a good being, she loves and protects what matters just because she is like that. Doesnt struggle with Codes or morals, just feels It and wings It with all the pure honesty of her heart. And she is utterly funny, many times involuntary. Bless her.

Watching this movie was amazing. It made me feel seen as a transgender person who grew up in a transphobic household. I loved it so much! I'm glad this film was made and I hope it gets the attention it deserves.
