I think learning more about Nemona and Gloreth's relationship and how they both move on after the initial village confrontation would be a really interesting story! Learning more about Nemona's past and her insecurities, watching the village slowly grow into a prosperous yet hateful place, and seeing the biases laid out in the original movie continue to gain development and focus would really improve the IP in my opinion.

Just a heads up; Netflix _does not_ hire animators or anybody for most of their stuff. Mostly there are teams that produces series and movies by themselfs, and Netflix just distributes/helps fund it. That's the case for Arcane, Nimona, and many others.

First of all, it's just such a freaking miracle that this movie even exists. With Netflix background of just not giving a f*ck about animation, and SO many promising animated projects being cancelled either before release or half way already out. This feels like a movie I would have had to go to an alternate reality where animation is not the most disrespected media out there in order to watch it. And just have oh so many good things to say about it. First of all, yes, of course, the gay that is very present throughout the movie and it's not ambiguous nor "open to interpretation" And there are so many deep lines from this movie that have such a meaningful message. Like when Ballister said to Nimona "it would be easier if you were human" and she responds with "easier for who?" And that other incredibly powerful line where Nimona says "If I don't shapeshift I wouldn't die, but I wouldn't be living" because yes, if you think about it, there would have been no conflict at all if Nimona had never shapeshifted at all and it would have been "easier if she just stayed human" but that's exactly the point, it would have been easier, but for who? For her? Or for everybody else around her who are not willing to accept her for who she is and just need to force her to be like the rest of them. It would have been easier, but not for her, she wouldn't be herself and as she said, she wouldn't actually be living.

IMO, this movie is the exact kind of queer rep I want to see in media. Identifiable LGBT characters whose identities are clearly visible, but don't take over the story. Honestly I just wish this movie had a shot at the movie theatres! This is a really great movie, and one I wish for more people to see! I sadly have a feeling that despite its success, being a streaming exclusive harms any projects longevity and ability to reach new audiences, and just gets caught in the pile of content out of sight, away from people who might otherwise have checked it out. Especially now more than ever with every company trying to gain a share of the Netflix streaming pie and prices going up and up!

This film was a blast, I'm glad I saw it, Mimona is perhaps the most creative animated feature I've seen in a while. I'm rather glad Netflix resuscitated Nimona, it's too good for Disney, the same studio that gave the Owl House the boot, because it "Didn't fit the brand", Netflix had been on a winning streak, I was impressed with Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, so I feel Netflix has a future in animated films. I also found it amusing for a new film, Mimona was a time capsule for the mid 2010s, while paradoxically, being quite modern and contemporary, in conclusion, Mimona is worth the watch, it's a very fun film.

@citrusred2670 Жыл бұрын
I'd argue he WAS the best. He managed to survive on the run without being arrested for however many days until Nimona found him, built himself a whole mechanical arm from scraps with his _non-dominant hand,_ and is incredibly skilled in combat; there's that one scene where they're fighting on top of the institute after Ballister tried showing Ambrosius the video from the squire, for example. The moment that stood out for me from there is that Ballister throws armadillo-Nimona at a knight, hitting him square in the crotch, jumping him while he's doubled over from pain, using the shield _still attached to the knight's arm_ to defend himself from a few blaster shots, and only then headbutting the knight to take him out fully before being picked up by Nimona as they jump off the institute building. It all happens in the span of about 5 seconds, and the action flows so well from one moment to the other that on a first watch you might barely realise what happened before it's over.

@@citrusred2670 yeh, you don't need to present the argument to me that he's the best fighter among the knights of that generation. @viridian5maureen853 Жыл бұрын
As far as the Director saw it, the queen allowing Ballister, someone from a non-noble (non-Gloreth-approved) background, to become a knight was a direct attack on the city's way of life and values, and then the queen intended to open up the knights to even more commoners aside from him. That was unforgivable to the Director. Framing him for the murder would prevent more commoners from being trusted as knights. Plus, she got more power for herself this way.

I like the style of the animation and and the cyberpunk fantasy got a nice touch. My favorite characters are obviously ballister and nimona (mostly nimona) because these two have a heart felt relationship between a father and daughter. There are few complaints about this movie is making the director be the obvious antagonist and Gloreth as well. I didn’t read the graphic novel, but when she and nimona were kids it’s kinda weird that gloreth suddenly changed her mind even though she’s aware that nimona has powers. It would’ve played out differently if this was an accident and gloreth’s parents thought nimona tried to attack her or something. Either way, the film is good and unique, and perhaps better film than the ones I watched so far.
