Glad to see Chloe is so open about everything, and so proud of her ethnicity! She (and Ming na wen as well) make me feel so proud to be Chinese. Chloe, if you ever read this, I would give any show a chance if you had a prominent role in it. I hope you get all the success you deserve. You rock.

1) i didn't know chloe's story bg besides the fact that she's at least half asian so this was an video to watch 2) RELATABLE as i am an asian american living in the US 3) i'm glad she brought up (again) what steve harvey said because idt people are talking about that enough and i certainly haven't forgiven him since he never actually apologised overall, thank you for this clip!
@ssh837 жыл бұрын
You have to realize Steve's words can only hurt you because you have that insecurity inside you to begin with. Ask Jackie Chan or Gackt if they feel hurt by that comment. Best thing to do is to change the reason that you feel insecurity about yourself. So next time he says that, you can just say, "tell him to stand next to me and let the people choose."
@sailorjupiter47 жыл бұрын
when a person of colour said they're hurt because of a racist comment, you don't get to decide otherwise. if you're not a POC, or in this case specifically asian, then shut the hell up.
@rezjaz9607 жыл бұрын
ssh83 Ah, the usual victim blaming mentality. I wonder if you say that kind of crap to the families of people who committed suicide. "Lol, those people are just insecure. Nothing to do with others. They should've changed their insecurity in the first place. Totally deserved it." You know that everyone has some sort of insecurity in them, right? And if you're the cause of it, then you sure as hell should apologize. Changing yourself works only to a certain extent, and the environment also needs to change. If the environment doesn't change, that insecurity will come back sooner or later. Jackie Chan and Gackt aren't even Asian-Americans. They wouldn't feel as hurt by it because they don't live in an environment that openly discriminates against them. Understand the difference?
@sailorjupiter47 жыл бұрын
i also wanna say, idk if a lot of people already knew this, but EVEN IF there's one special snowflake of colour who said they didn't feel hurt or bothered by a racist act, it doesn't disqualify the feelings of the rest of the people of colour who are hurt by it support people of colour or stay in your gd lane; don't try to "teach" us anything. learn and be aware of the issues instead.

rachel.doremi is that bad or good?
@rachel.doremi69744 жыл бұрын
Porridge Woman, gotta watch more interviews to see her pov on it... personally, i feel kinda hurt for asian actors that missed out on the legitimate chance to be black widow; Scarlett Johansson is an amazing black widow, so I can’t complain. I just really hate that screen writers and directors might just be trying to mold an “ethnically diverse cast” instead of blankly just looking at the actor’s performance... but then again, most characters are tied to some sort of skin color or race. But like for example, that actor they chose for Starfire and the actual performance in the trailer isn’t the Starfire anyone grew up regardless of whether they watched the animation, read the comics, or both. Not to say that is wasn’t the directors’, producers’, or writers’ fault, but you shouldn’t just take the storyline of a written story that your target audience knows and loves and morph it to fit your ideas... if you’re ideas are great, start from scratch, and build a new one
@professionalmemeenthusiast21174 жыл бұрын
Ask the actual manga creators- not all characters in Japanese fiction are ethnically Japanese, they write about Europeans too.
@rachel.doremi69744 жыл бұрын
Professional Meme Enthusiast 1, manga and film aren’t the same, books and film aren’t the same either... there also isn’t just Japanese people in Japan; Japanese (and many if not all) schools engage with students to learn a minimum of 1 foreign language fluently before they graduate highschool, many lean toward European Countries because it helps increase your status in the corporate field to converse fluently between 2 foreign companies. The issue isn’t ethnicity: the issue is character portrayal. If your actor can’t portray the prewritten personality traits of a main character them as, why use that actor? This is where Scarlett Johansson excels: she portrays Black Widow’s personality, facial expressions, and cadence very well. It could be a huge issue on the directors, writers, and producers that the actor isn’t showing the character’s actual personality traits to make the film “kid-friendly” or “politically correct”, and not the actor’s fault at all. For example, in the dreaded live remake of the Last Airbender, Katara and Sokka’s actors happen to be much paler then the animated and drawn character design. This serves no issue until Sokka’s outward expression became super sullen, when he is a punny dork that can’t help but crack jokes in times of crisis. This could be the at fault of the acting skills, but one should note bad directing, re-written plot points to make the movie cater to what they think kids are interested in, etc. Katara is way less outspoken and overbearing in the movie most definitely because of the editors and cameramen/women needing to capture the director/producer(s) vision, if not the writers being pinned down by producers to “make it make money”.

Wow, so many comments about how she doesn't look Chinese. Who made any of you experts on what a Chinese person should look like? Especially a Mixed Chinese person? I myself am Half-Chinese. I get the gamut of what I look like. Especially living in Texas, many people think that I look Hispanic, including to Hispanics. The Asians I've met usually tell me I definitely look Asian, just not Chinese. My father's family has a lot of Central European ancestry along with Irish and Native American. My Mother's family was from Southern China. My point is the way people of mixed ancestry look depends on the makeup of their families, there is no standard look for a half Chinese person or any other mixed race individual.

Thank you for saying this!! I am SO done with people on the internet whining about how she's not a real Asian because she doesn't look half Asian, or commenting she doesn't look Asian at all. 😑 I am Han Chinese as well, and have been mistaken for a Spanish speaking person. I personally wouldn't know what else is in my genetic makeup besides Han Chinese but I do know China is a very ethnically diverse place. There are many native ethnic groups there who have mixed their blood with Han Chinese, or ethnically native people in China who have assimilated into Han Chinese culture and can speak mandarin. That's why I think there is no one "look" for how Chinese people should be like physically.

@@asd-dr9cf Strangely bizarre response. There is no sense of "entitlement" or even "judgement" to offer an opinion. For most if they say "She doesn't look Chinese" it means nothing other than that don't see characteristics of a Chinese person. It's not meant to be a criticism or a compliment, it's simply called an observation. For most there is no malice. I'd be more concerned about the people trying to get her to do stereotypical accents. Of course there are those that are the jerks, but let's not lump in "White people". For some strange reason you felt the need to capitalize white. Frankly as I've watched her over the years, it hasn't event been something I thought of or even cared to consider. What I see if a very talented young woman that I hope to see in many future projects. That's it. I've just looked forward to the next episode and kept an eye out for something else she was in. I think her explaining this is awesome. People are too baffled by me, my mother is Puerto Rican and my dad is Vietnamese and Chinese. What does that make me? I have had someone call me muslim, and others a Mexican. To make this more confusing, I play rugby in Texas and recently started football and the fact of me being Asian gives people a stereotype before they even see me. I look mostly Spanish but if I told you I was Vietnamese you could probably see it. Yet not even my own Asian side of the family thinks I look Chinese.

That is one thing about shield, there are lots of different races involved in the casting and also lots of female leads too. But it’s not forced! I think too many movies lately are putting in different races and more female leads just to try and show equality, but most of the time it doesn’t make sense to do so within the context of the movie. Shield is different, the writers and casting crew did an amazing to to include all these different races and female leads without forcing them in there, every character has a place, role and it makes sense for them to be there in my opinion.

The Chinese aspects were subtle, the eye tilt could have been Scandinavian-- but the sheer beauty was anything but subtle. Then there was coolness and projected intelligence. Never apologize for being everything you are. My stepfather wanted me to "embrace my culture" more, but he wanted me to be more Spanish than I was(I'm the "white girl"). The problem is that I'm not *just* Spanish/Hispanic. I'm German too, so I embraced that instead(I was completely immersed in my culture since the day I was born, I just didn't develop the stereotypical personality from it). He hated it that, but I loved it & I learned more about where I come from. Considering my surname is German & NOT Spanish, it is just as important. So a lot of different peoples want cultural exclusivity in their world, but it's not realistic. So many people are so mixed race. I think it's neat. I also think Chloe is a very beautiful & talented girl & it took all those different cultures to make her who she is.

Being a father of two bi-racial daughters, I'm a little biased but some of the most beautiful women on TV or in Film are Asian-American mixes : Kristin Kreuk, Olivia Munn, Chole Bennett, Phoebe Cates, Chanel Iman, and Elodie Yung to mention a few. I challenge anyone of any enthnicity to find find these women anything but gorgeous!

But he kept trying and now is very successful dancing on Broadway as well as acting. He was once a background dancer for Jennifer Lopez on a music video awards show! So go for it! Just follow your dreams and power thru!

No, they don't. Marvel Studios is completely separate.
@ANDRYpresh7 жыл бұрын
Marvel Television is a division of Marvel Entertainment in The Walt Disney Company conglomerate. Most of the live-action shows produced by the division are set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, sharing continuity with the films produced by Marvel Studios. That difference you're talking about is between a regular Marvel movie (that can be owned by Sony, WB, Universal, such as the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Deadpool), and a Marvel Studios movie, where the two can't ever be meeting. AOS and Agent Carter don't fall in that category and can cross over with all the Avengers movies. So while the companies may be subdivisions of one another, at the end of the day there's always a chance they'll have to work together, just like Coulson was brought over from there.

Icefarrow they both works for DISNEY and both characters of BLACK WIDOW and QUAKE lives in the same universe and can cross paths at any moment.
@icefarrow79597 жыл бұрын
+stormxjp It's not that simple. Feige got fed up with Perlmutter's money attitude, and with Bob Iger's permission separated from Marvel Entertainment. Marvel Television is still part of Marvel Entertainment. Just because Disney ultimately owns the brand, doesn't mean that they interfere. Both Perlmutter and Feige are left to run their own divisions of Marvel. The only person they report to is Bob Iger. Same with Lucasfilm. LLCs are left to do their own things, but the parent company CEO has to sign off on their ventures. Just because they belong to the same parent company doesn't mean as mcuh as some people thinkl, and Chloe Bennet constantly speaks her mind. She's spoken shit about other Marvel Television projects and the films before.

"What are you?" used to be an innocent question when I was 10 years old. Now it's offensive to ask, but laudable to tell. Never connected the curiosity of my peers with that sign on the field trip bus that puzzled me: "....regardless of race, color, creed, or national origin." ( It wasn't all sunshine and lollipops. Kids can be mean little s.o.b.s. ) Chloe, though. I watched Agents Of Shield and became a fan. Of the show. And...wow, who's that? She's beautiful!

Of the 6 siblings I look the most like my Caucasian dad with my hazel eyes but my mom always said I was most Japanese of all her kids culturally loving anime, sumo, sushi, etc. and keeping up with my Japanese. Japanese tourists are always blown away when I speak fluent Japanese to them, good fun!

Commander of the Last HeteroWhiteMale Battalion First of all, I "dare" to talk about anything I Damn well please. Secondly, I didn't say anything about "whitewashing"; I was just calling you out on your obvious butthurt post. I'm not normally one to feud with a fellow Marvelite, but there's a simple solution for you: if seeing Black characters and actors is so repugnant to you, don't watch! Just go read The Turner Diaries or something, and leave Marvel offerings to people with humanity.
@Coastincolt7 жыл бұрын
Better actors! And I don't have a problem with Iron Fist.
@Coastincolt7 жыл бұрын
You're really not that bright, are you? There are only two cases of "Blackwashing" in the MCU that I'm aware of : Nick Fury and Heimdall. Fury doesn't really count, as Marvel comics made the change themselves with their Ultimate version of Nick Fury. I love David Hasselhoff ( TV movie Nick Fury), but, yes, Sam Jackson is a better actor than him! Idris Elba was perfect as Heimdall; I can't imagine any other actor, regardless of ethnicity, being better in that role. So my comment was specifically about those two actors. Once again, you're butthurt over nothing!
@kcerasai04697 жыл бұрын
I didn't actually know she was mostly Chinese.....I could tell she had *some* type of Asian in her, as well as some mixes from other cultures, but to me, her ethnicity didn't factor in to how much I love her in AOS. I couldn't imagine anyone else doing that role...And her embracing that part of her, makes me love her even more. I think Chloe is a great role model too.

The truth is Hollywood wants everything to be white. Any film from overseas that gets bought up by Hollywood, it always gets remade into a white version of the film rather than releasing it with Subtitles or English dubbed versions. Dragonball was white-ed, along side the Last Airbender, Ghost in the Shell, Live Die Repeat, the Departed, The Ring, The Grudge, Old Boy you name all of them.
@gnomekingdom79167 жыл бұрын
CavemanJesus4Life The last Air Bender is an American show and they white washed two characters for the movie. And it wasn't the studios fault just the casting and he who shall not be names horrible vision.
@xSharinganEternalx7 жыл бұрын
This is because there is an entire Asian film industry that typically has all Asian cast- Bollywood, Korea, China, Japan, etc. Also, their remakes consist of an all Asian cast typically. The U.S. is majority white, so it makes sense that Hollywood be dominated by white actors and actresses. People only have a problem with it because it's cool to hate white people because you know... the evil white man narrative. ;)
@stratdaddy7 жыл бұрын
Hollywood wants everything to be white? Lmao. Hollywood is liberal as hell, which explains why historically white characters are replaced with minorities because "muh diversity". Meanwhile, replace minorities with whites and you get "muh white washing"

Ming-Na Wen- Asian Husband Lisa Ling- Asian Husband Keiko Agena- Asian Husband Ali Wong- Asian Husband Christina Chang-Asian boyfriend Chloe Bennet- Only dates white men. Instagram filled with only white friends(Literally...) Yet, she bugs about Asian American issues, which is strange as she doesnt even hang out with any Asians other then Co-workers from ABC. Which means shes only using her Asian activism for her image and PR which is sad and the reason why she wont speak up about Pauls racism like she did furiously against Gigi Hadid and Mr. Potato Head.

Spain, Portugal, France, and Italy are LATIN countries with LATIN based languages so they're LATINO. She's Portuguese? Then she's LATINO by the very definition of the fucking word. Native Americans aren't Latin Americans are any of that shit. We have our own culture and own languages.
