I think people are misunderstanding what people mean when they talk about straight actors not playing gay roles. I haven't seen anyone say they shouldn't full stop. The issue is gay people struggling to find roles and straight actors always playing these big gay roles and getting awards and praise for it. I can't think of any big gig gay roles played by gay actors. There needs to be more gay people in gay roles.
@kalingazzz6 жыл бұрын
Leilabeth Ledford ummm Amber Heard? That girl in Westworld. I think it just have to do with appearance. That is hollywood. Do you know any bi and stunning actresses who are struggling to get gigs? I bet Chloe wouldn't struggle to find roles even though everyone must know that she isn't straight
@rodolfo_oliva6 жыл бұрын
That doesn't make sense. Why would they be interested in hiring a gay person to do a gay character. They cast actors depending on how talented they are, not their sexual orentation. There are also gay people playing straight roles, so i don't know what you're complaining about.
@susanq60305 жыл бұрын
If they struggle to find roles then it’s because they suck at acting. You seem to forget that that’s an option.
@iamawesomeprods4 жыл бұрын
Neil patrick harris played a whole womanizer, I agree tho that hollywood needs to stop putting people in boxes. My acting teacher is the "gayest" man I know, he does drag in a full beard, but he plays a straight man like it's nobody business!
@cvdeiana4 жыл бұрын
It's a bit ignorant to simply suggest that there should be more gay people in gay roles unless of course there is some form of discrimination against gay actors in the industry, which may well be the case and you would have to find some kind of evidence of this, you can't just assume. Ultimately however I believe that the best actor should be chosen for the part regardless of their sexuality. At the end of the day it's a job and no one should be judged on their sexuality when recruiting for a job as this would clearly be sexual discrimination. Whether it's a straight person playing a gay role or a gay person playing a straight role, someone's sexuality shouldn't have anything to do with it period. Actually if you think about it, if gay people were to receive extra help to receive these roles over straight people then it would be unfair on straight people, it would be inequality.
@mfrog6 жыл бұрын
Actors' sexualities shouldnt have to align with their characters' sexualities. It's ACTING, LGBT actors shouldnt be forbidden from playing straight characters, and vise versa. Do you expect casting directors to ask the sexuality of their actors before casting them? Do you realize the irony in that?

Vuyolwethu Mtyapa why aren’t they getting the roles? Are you insinuating that they aren’t getting roles because they are gay? Because if so that would be illegal (at least in the US). Maybe they don’t get roles because they aren’t good enough for the part or don’t have enough star power behind them to be casted in big films.

yeah i don’t agree w only gay actors playing gay characters like i’m seeing most people do. when you put an emphasis on this topic, actors like lee pace start getting outed and it isn’t fair to them. we should be more worried about our stories being told respectively, and by individuals who actually understand our experiences as lgbt+ people. i think it’s way more important that the director, desiree akhavan, identifies as queer that way the story is actually authentic.

Being an actor / actress is not about playing yourself, it's about playing someone else. Only gay actors being allowed to play gay characters is absolutely ridiculous.
