She was jealous that her child wasnt treated equally and the fact Chloe was treated poorly and she couldnt leave due to the contracts which she finally got out of at the end of season 4. Who felt happy for Chloe and hugged her right away after hearing that Chloe won the second Nationals? Maddie. When Kendall was stressing before Sugar and Spice, who encouraged her and told her that she was better than anything Abby said about her? Maddie. During the scene where Paige got hurt on a curling iron, which child told a joke and made her laugh? Maddie. When Mackenzie was stressing before performing her lyrical dance Cry, who told her that she would do just fine and cheered her on? Maddie. During a lot of Nia’s and Paige’s solos, who actively encouraged them from the audience? Maddie. Who cheered on Kalani and actively encouraged her, even when she was in pain (during her backaches)? Maddie and Melissa. Maddie is just as nice as the other girls. She is humble and down to a Earth, just like the other girls. Maddie wasn’t there to comfort Chloe in that particular scene because she was taken out of the room by Melissa and wasn’t there to see this happen.

In an interview with Rosie O'Donnell she admitted to deliberately treating Christi and Chloe badly because she was told she couldn't kick them off the show. There's also a clip on KZbin (not sure if it aired as part of Season 8, as I don't want it) where Abby said she never wanted Chloe to win at competitions but she still did. She's going to be sweet in person because it would be bad for her rep if she wasn't.
