Hey buddy I own a pool company here in Las Vegas. Swim-Tek,Inc and I want to go to prebilling instead of billing in the rears. Do you do that? What’s your best advice for the wording on letting my customers know about the change without without them going nutty? Thanks man

I have heard you say in one of your videos that pool service in Jacksonville is much more than in Tampa or Sarasota. I have checked this and it seems that Jacksonville charges 30% to 60% more than Tampa or Sarasota. Why is this the case? I am considering buying a small route and would rather move to a location where the payoff is significantly higher. Is there a catch here?

From the couple of pool business owners I know say they usually drive a good ways between accounts. Here where I’m at I have tons of pools on the same street or just one street over. In some cases we don’t even have to turn the truck on and can service 3-4 pools.

Hi Chlorine King. (paraphrasing) You have mentioned how licenses and insurance are a necessary value adder to your business and should be a must have if you are serious about building a brand. I have gone through the permitting and insurance process and I will be taking the CPO course soon. Beyond those criteria, what kind of certifications should I consider moving forward? You have also mentioned you have a "contractor license" in another video. Is that a pool contractor license or just a general contractor license? As you know, Here in Florida there are several levels of pool professional licenses. 1. Commercial contractor license, 2. Residential contractor, 3. Service Contractor, 4. Specialty Contractor, 5. Residential Service specialty license. Each pool professional license has individual restrictions or limitations. I will be attempting to get license 5. Residential Service specialty license. With that being said, at minimum the requirement is to complete a 60 hour course in swimming pool/spa servicing approved by the CILB and have at least 1 year proven experience in the residential pool/spa servicing scope of work and pass the Florida certified swimming pool/spa servicing contractors’ examination. Do you think this is overkill? I agree with YOUR model of doing business and, I would like to offer customers/clients "value" and professionalism with their service and charge appropriately for that "value". Not overcharging, but price the service as a cut above the "splash-n-dash companies doing business out there. Professionalism... what a concept!Your opinion is greatly appreciated.Benny.
@ChlorineKingPoolService6 жыл бұрын
You’re on the right track. I have my residential pool contractor license. I can do everything except build. The AST course I heard is also another one that’s good.

if i was to start a business and grow it. what are some mile stones that I could look for in terms of number of clients added per month?
@ChlorineKingPoolService4 жыл бұрын
As Mark said it's hard to decipher. I think a major milestone would be getting enough business to support your lifestyle. Then everything else is just gravy. As far as clients per month. It really depends on how much competition is in your area. I can see steady growth over the last year, and that's really all you could ask for. Monitor and make adjustments to succeed.

@ChlorineKingPoolService4 жыл бұрын
The guideline I go by is if you need a tool to do something with pools, you need a license. Some exceptions would be changing out filter elements or o-rings. I hope this helps.
@patricdemyer45044 жыл бұрын
@@ChlorineKingPoolService it indeed does. But beinging in florida what license would you say I should get?
@ChlorineKingPoolService4 жыл бұрын
I’d suggest the middle license. That will allow you to renovate both commercial and residential and repair either one. The only difference between the higher end one is being able to build. You can test for your builders after 4 years if you decide to upgrade in the future.
@patricdemyer45044 жыл бұрын

Yes, nothing needed for cleaning but you absolutely need a license to do repairs. My friend in PSL said their county said the same thing. I assure you though, please be safe and get your license. It's just not worth it.

David Newhouse you’re welcome. Anything you’re doing with trying to rank higher will take some time. Even with my SEO work it took a solid 6 months before I started getting calls consistently. There’s nothing wrong with advertising with google. If you’re going to I’d do it in the beginning or while you’re wanting to grow. That route could get very expensive; very quickly. Take care.

This past year obviously because of this pandemic I’ve had some customers go threw some hard times, and a few of them are just having a hard time making their monthly pool service payment. I have a great relationship with all my customers, what would you advice on those customers that are just not wanting to pay and at the same time they just have not said anything thing about possibly pausing on service or stopping it. Please let me know your thoughts thanks Erik

That's a tough one. My suggestion is to reach out to them and ask them about it. At the end of the day you want to help clients but you also aren't running a charity. You also want to ensure that this isn't a normal procedure because you don't want clients taking advantage of your generosity. I hope this helps.

These people are most likely deferring their mortgage and getting assistance on so many other large monthly liabilities. With organizations that generate billions and have government backing. They can relax on asking for a help from their pool tech. Definitely go about it on a case by case. And if they are working from home. They are saving on gas as well. They shouldn’t be asking for assistance for such a. Insignificant bill compared to car and mortgage payments that most have received assistance on. And if it’s a rental property and they aren’t collecting rent. They clearly had/ have enough income to qualify for more then one property and most likely have a home equity line of credit on those properties. They are still eating out and spending other on other items with credit cards. You don’t see people asking for free food from Restaurants.

Great advice! I've been a repair tech for 5 years and started my own route business recently. I love educating my customers. But one issue I'm having is I'll get calls for service and I'll go inspect the pool and it's a swap. While I'm talking to the owner I sometimes feel like they are trying to get me to tell them how to clear it up themselves, and then send me on my way.... what a waste of time/effort. What would you say is the best way of handling these situations?

I am wanting to start a pool service with my free time. I currently work 10 days a month(240 hr) as a firefighter. I took the CPO class but honestly it was a joke. I feel like it was a teach you the test class. So I have been just watching youtube videos to learn as much as I can. I was wondering if you let people shadow you while you are servicing your clients? I live in Tampa. I was thinking about taking the CPI class next.

MFB83 thanks for your service. The CPO is a good introductory, but like you’ve surmised, it won’t replace time in the field as far as managing and running a successful pool business. I can put you in touch with a couple of people that have shadowed me if you’d like? Good luck!
