Hello everyone!
Yes, I know I am late, but here is my final tour vlog from my time on tour with Steve Hackett. Join me as I take you through some fun moments from the last show of the tour at the Patchogue Theater for the Performing Arts. Not only was it me last show, it was the bands final show of the whole year of touring. They played something like 160 shows! The energy on stage and in the room was fantastic.
What an amazing experience it was to be on that stage with Steve and the boys. Thank you Steve, Jo, the band, the crew, and to Craig Blundell!
Cheers!

Nick, you are such a class act! I have enjoyed all your amazing work over the years - Spock's - your solo work ("Come What May" is still my favorite song for my lovely wife) - All your work with Kevin Gilbert - Big Big Train and now with Mr. Hackett - the videos we have been blessed with on KZbin from the tour are fantastic!! Thank you SO much for everything you have given us! Best of luck to you and yours in the coming years.

I noticed the "There's an angel standing in the sun" singing part....this really gets to the backbone.....greetings and happy new year to more projects and new music too....cheers!

(And I'm also a huge Jonas Reingold fan - can't wait for the upcoming Fringe album, 'love the first one!) As luck would have it, the Patchogue show was the one that fit my schedule, and how lucky was I to see this!! Possibly the best concert I've ever seen for the combined musicianship, incredible songs, and amazing energy from both the band and the crowd. And by the way, the sound was *perfect* - I could hear every note; whoever ran it did justice to the entire band. @@NDVirgilio I grew up listening to Hackett & Genesis. Saw Mr. Big at Shoreline in Mountain View, CA opening for RUSH in 1990-ish. Big played "Addicted to That Rush" as their last song before RUSH came on. Loved the way Pat rolled on the high hats. I couldn't figure out if it was a paradiddle or a roll till I saw his instructional video. You do both bands justice, which is no small feat. I only wish you'd extend those rolls a little longer on the crispy hats but perhaps that's a bit too Torpey? PS: A former friend's local prog band opened for Hackett at a small venue in San Jose, CA back in 1992 for the "Guitar Noir" tour. Such a great time! Keep stickin' and keep showing us how it's done. BTW Patchogue is pronounced PATCH HOG Long Island not Pa chog. LOL. What made Phil what he was on drums where his use of Left Handed drum Sticks. :) You must have felt like a kid in a candy store. Sounded good to me.I used to work at the now demolished NY Academy of Music in NYC and remember the first time Genesis played the venue. It was a show like no other. Glad you have fun and maybe Steve will have you back again.

We made a great record together. Along with the amazing Randy McStine. We called the band The Fringe. There’s a jazz trio called the Fringe as well. Didn’t know at the time. Here is the Spotify link if you’d like to check it out: open.spotify.com/album/1lLSxgquNi2iT35dQrmjNu?si=HfagGVmORFKNvTViHr7Ljg

Nick, did you have to audition for the role, or did Steve just call you up and ask you if you could sub for Craig? I'd be interested to know how this came about.
@NDVirgilio
@NDVirgilio Жыл бұрын
I've recorded for Steve on his last few records so we got to know each other over that time. I've known Craig for ages and have seen him play with Steve. He needed that time off and reached out to me with Steve's blessing.

@@NDVirgilio Thanks for that info. Now, the bigger question: what's it like to work with Nad? I have his three Vampirate albums, and he's a great musician/producer, but he comes off as quite the diva, and more than a little "strange". I'm sure you'll give the diplomatic response, but inquiring minds want to know. I'm still sad about losing Kevin Gilbert, and it makes me wonder what he would be doing musically if he was still with us. Also, is that a Tascam 8 track recorder I see over there? I have used mine for several years..great product.

I feel cheated, Craig is excellent too, but I'd have loved / preferred to see NDV live in the genesis context when I saw them live in Australia.

What a lucky man (and excellent musician) you are, playing with Genesis and Steve in separate gigs along with many other great bands. Can you talk about your experience in doing "Calling all stations" and why you chose the drum style you did. A question from left field: Why does Peter Gabriel refuse to play his songs (or any songs) from the Genesis era (excepet from his first two tours where he would play a song or two from the Lamb. Thanks again, I have enjoyed watching you play many times in LA and wish you the best.

Nick, you were great in Patch-aug, and you seem like a great guy! How lucky are you to jam with Steve after growing up playing those songs. You earned it! I do have a question to ask of you that has nothing to do with drums. What are the make of the bass pedals used by the band? They were clearly not Moog Taurus 1's, but sounded dam close. I have a set of Taurus 1's, and I LOVE them, but they are temperamentally wonky at times. Best regards from Long Island

I don't know what kind of pedals those were but they sounded so huge on stage. I imagine they were even bigger out front. Cheers and thank you for watching!

Nick, out of all the songs on the tour, which was the most difficult to perform live?
@NDVirgilio
@NDVirgilio Жыл бұрын
I would have to say that the most difficult part of the show is Apocalypse in 9/8 from Supper's Ready. There are other difficult moments for sure but that one really bends the mind. I was getting more used to it by the end of the tour but it was still tough. In a great and challenging sort of way.
