I remember you saying in one video that someone or a couple of people told you that this method you have come up with to teach Swedish is not how people learn and wouldn’t work. Well, I want them and you to know that this is exactly how people learn another language and good for you for continuing your videos despite what they said. I’m Canadian and begun French lessons since about Grade 3 (8 or so) and I continued it until my final year, Grade 12. For 9-10 years of study, you’d think we’d all easily be bilingual here but we aren’t because the focus is on reading and writing in French with very little actual French speaking except what our teacher would say. It is because of that lack of conversation that we all looked on paper to be bilingual but in reality most of us graduated unable to use it very much. While you speak slowly and have the captions below, I can quite easily follow along and if I need to hear something again, a couple clicks back and I can hear it again. You are helping so many people understand and speak Swedish by offering “slow Swedish”. Don’t believe the naysayers, those of us who are learning are proof that your teaching style does indeed work! :) If I could suggest one thing??? Do you think it would be possible to have a list of key words used in your lesson placed at the end of your video that maybe we could pause and get a screen-capture of and print? It could help reinforce proper pronunciation and also help show us when a sound had an unexpected letter. For example, when english-speakers hear “hej då”, most of us would assume that the “då” part would end with an “o”. The å throws us for a loop. If we saw some of these basic words or words associated to your lesson, we would recognize that and know to apply that to other words that have “å”. Is this something possible? Love your channel!

I remember how I desperately wanted to hear you talk in Swedish and the only thing I could do was to watch the vlog that was recorded outside (it was very noisy there and the camera kept falling down XD). So I am super-happy that now I can enjoy listening to this mysterious beautiful language as much as I want in high-quality! Thank you.

In your IG you ask for suggestions. Something that I would find really useful is that at the beginning or end of the video you would do a list of the top 3 or 5 words that are special or important to the video. Like in this video mix, pour,... The important terms only.

Great video! Whenever we travel in Sweden we always see them available in the cafes (kaféer) and confectioneries (konditorier). They are also a favorite of mine. They are great when you just need a little snack for fika and nothing big. I made a big plate of these a few weeks ago for the people at my workplace here in the USA and they all disappeared quickly.

I adore you, and I adore your videos! Thank you! You are doing at least this one American idiot a great service. I’m learning Swedish because my daughter picked out international trip this summer and she picked Sweden and Norway. I am very determined not to look like a giant American oaf while in Scandinavia, so I am trying to learn the language basics so at least one of can get around. You videos are perfect for listening to the native tongue in a slow relaxed pace where I can understand everything. Thank you!

I don’t want to disappoint you, but I’m 99% sure every person you will meet will speak English fluently. And if you try to speak Swedish with them they’ll switch to English. 😂😂 But I still think it’s worth learning so you can read a little and understand some things other people are saying around you. 😁 Swedes generally love English speaking foreigners/tourists.

I have to send you the recipe for similar treats as these from my home province of Newfoundland, Canada. The cocoa, milk, butter mixture needs to be boiled either to a specific temperature or for a specific length of time (which gets the mixture pretty close to that temperature) and the result is fudgey, softer chocolate balls which then get rolled in finely shredded coconut. It’s amazing and something one can find at every home in Newfoundland over Christmas. We call them Snowballs :)

We have almost the identical confectionary in Newfoundland, Canada but we boil the sugar, milk and cocoa for at least 5 minutes on a rapid boil. It makes it more of a condensed chocolate syrup. We let this cool until it can be handled and then we roll them in sweetened shredded coconut. We also have to put ours in the fridge to cool and set them. Our “Snowballs” as we call them (more like dirty snow than snow...lol) stay fudgey in the middle but firm up nicely to hold or set onto a serving plate. I will try your recipe this year for Christmas. Every Newfoundlander’s home has Snowballs at Christmas. It’s a must-have. This year I’ll have “Svenska” Snowballs instead. :) tysm Katrin! PS, for adults only, maybe Bailey’s cream liqueur would be a nice substitute for the coffee or water. Another nice one would be Amarula...yum!! Just a little wouldn’t hurt, right? :)

Kinda reminds me of Oreo Balls. Just take a case of oreos and one of those bricks of plain cream cheese. Blend the oreos in a blender, then blend the oreo powder with the brick of cream cheese in a bowl. Melt some chocolate (little wafer things) in another bowl and then make little balls with the mixture and roll the oreo balls in the melted chocolate. Place them on some non stick foil (can't remember what it's called). Refrigerate for a couple hours and enjoy.

looks great. Can I ask, what's the difference between Kaffe and Fika? I never know which to use.
@KatrinBerndtSWE
@KatrinBerndtSWE 6 жыл бұрын
Honestly no huge difference. Fika can be just kaffe and kaffe is kinda fika in day to day use of the word. But fika actually includes something edible as well, which kaffe does not necessarily do. :) And for fika you can drink wherever you want, but if you have a kaffe with someone they might say “but I don’t drink kaffe” hehe.
@Mossy-Rock
@Mossy-Rock 6 жыл бұрын
The way I understand it: Kaffe is coffee. Fika is the "event" of talking time to have a beverage such as coffee or tea (kaffe eller te) and maybe something light to eat, such as a chocolate ball or sandwich (chokladboll eller smörgås), usually with friends or co-workers. But, it could be just with yourself. It is like the difference between "coffee" and a "coffee break." If I'm incorrect here please let me know.
@KatrinBerndtSWE
@KatrinBerndtSWE 6 жыл бұрын
Exacty, coffee vs. coffee break explains it pretty well. You can ask a friend if they wanna go have coffee or fika with you, it means pretty much he same thing in terms of spending time together.
