hi! wanted to ask how you remove the bitterness I tried following your steps but when I taste it there was a bitter taste to it and the orange flavor kind of disappeared. hope you'll reply, thanks. I'm tried this for my child and hubby
@Home_Cooking_Mom8 ай бұрын
The bitterness of the oranges' peel depends on the season (how ripe the oranges are) and the thickness of the peel. I would probably try to boil them more time than in the recipe. If that doesn't work and they are still bitter, I would avoid using bittersweet chocolate for the last steps and use more sweet dark chocolate (max 60%) or even milk chocolate (hoping that would cover the bitterness of the oranges' peel). Hope this helps! Please let me know which method you choose to try and how it turns out!

Lovely. Will try them. Are they chewy or hard please?
@Home_Cooking_Mom10 ай бұрын
They can turn out both ways. It depends on how long do you keep them in the oven. You dry them out (or not) the way you like. Hope that helps! Please let me know how do yours turn out at the end and how do you like them. 🤩

Hi may i know how long can they be kept in the fridge or freezer? Thanks 😊
@Home_Cooking_Mom Жыл бұрын
Hi there! In our case they are usually don't last longer than a week simply because they get eaten fast... ☺ My guess they could last at least couple of weeks as any candied fruits or chocolates, not in fridge though, but in the tight closed container in the pantry far from humidity and heat/sun. Hope that helps! Thank you for your comment!

I just made this recipe, and I couldn't avoid to burn it... Even on very low fire, as soon as 45 minutes the sugar started to burn. i even discarded the liquid halfway and put new sugary water, but it burned again.... Any tips? I also kept putting more water when it evaporated but it still burned...
@Home_Cooking_Mom Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry for your unsuccessful experience. Of course, this process depends on multiple things such as the quality of the pan (and how thick is its bottom), the fire (electrical or gas stove), how juicy are the oranges you use, etc. I really hope you don't give up and try again! You might want to try to put a lid on the pan next time and add water (boiling) before the oranges/sugar get to the point of burning. And add water bit by bit multiple times as much as needed. The cooking process can be adjusted and stopped at the point where the sugar is dissolved (preferably absorbed by oranges) and the oranges are dried and firm (not bandy) enough to be considered and looking as 'candied'. I praise you for daring and exploring new recipes and wish you good luck with this one if ever decide to try it again! If you ever do, please let me know how it turns out!

how long do these keep? how should they be stored?
@Home_Cooking_Mom9 ай бұрын
They should be stored in an airtight container, preferably in the fridge. They never lasted more than a week in our house 😊as have been consumed/disappearing very fast. Hope that helps!

How do you make them not be soggy ?
@Home_Cooking_Mom21 күн бұрын
Thank you for your question! Indeed, depending on the season, the oranges are differently juicy (or not). You might want to try to keep them longer in the oven with lower temperature. Hope that helps! 😍

What type of orange are you using?
@Home_Cooking_Mom2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. Somehow I missed your question... I usually use cara or novel oranges. But I think any oranges would work as well. If you try any other type of oranges, please let me know how it worked out for you. Good luck!

Did you really add half a kilo of sugar to FRUIT?! WTF!
@Home_Cooking_Mom9 ай бұрын
I understand your astonishment... And I agree, the fruit is perfect the way it is and is absolutely perfect and ready to be consumed as nature created it. But this recipe is not about healthy food. It is about candies, for sweet tooth. Let's think for a second and do some math here. Hard candies contain 100% sugar and people still buy them. Store bought candied oranges slices (the least sugary I found) contain at least 10-11gr per orange slice. That's about how much would produce the original recipe in my video too. Also, I mentioned in the video, the attempt of making same recipe and reducing the amount of sugar by 5 TIMES (using only 100gr of sugar). All depends on how sweet your tooth is and the amount of sugar you are comfortable (or like) to use in this recipe. In this case the recipe is flexible and everybody has always a choice. Just the result will be slightly different: more/less chewy, more/less sweet, more/less hard, more/less sticky, more/less lasting, etc. Please give it another chance to this recipe and give it a try with the amount of sugar you like (comfortable with) and let me know how it turned out.

Maybe you can dry them in the hot sun. If this process is to dehydrate the water from the candy.
