Yesss the crunchhh. Here in Indonesia we have something slightly similar called 'pisang bolen' (pisang=banana, bolen is the way the banana being put into the puff pastry). It's mostly square shaped, and the pastry might get a bit soggy after a while at the bottom (the butter will slightly seep), but somehow to me it makes the taste better.
