That's why Commissioner Gordan was brought in from outside Gotham to try to clean it up. The corruption basically went all the way to the top. Well... yeah. This is possession of a knife in the commission of a crime in my area (I think the official term has 'firearm', with a /knife added in). Which is its own crime specifically for this reason- having the knife made it far, far more likely for unfortunate 'accidents' to occur. Thus, the charge is there to discourage people from bringing the knife since it would get them in more trouble, even if everything goes without incident.

This is easily one of the most succinct criticisms of Batman in modern times. Having said that, the arguments provided in this video often fail to take into account the context of Gotham City's reality in regards to the story being told. The whole reason Batman doesn't seem anywhere near as absurd in the comics within which his stories are printed is because the writers establishes a reality where he makes sense. Gotham is described as over-run with crime, and we are informed on multiple occasions that Thomas and Martha Wayne did their best to improve Gotham via philanthropic means before their trip to the theater ended in disaster. The police force and justice systems in Gotham are also subject to corruption. As such, Bruce can't just blindly throw his money at other people to fix the problem; those people are, consciously or not, part of the problem! Even after becoming the Batman, Bruce still funnels money from Wayne Enterprises into humanitarian efforts and does his best to push his company towards developing technologies for a wide range of users (including law enforcement). Without this context, a result of world building on the part of Bob Kane and his colleagues, the Batman would seem illogical and bizarre. With it, however, these details contribute to one of the greatest tales of revenge and beyond in the history of comics.

A good point, but consider the culture in which Bob Kane took inspiration. A society off the rails of economic growth due to unchecked greed and commercial speculation (read superheated Wall Street attracting unsophisticated investors buying today's stock with tomorrow's money, allowed at that time), a disgruntled population panicking as sociopathic minds took lessons from America Inc to make crime into a thriving enterprise, and other factors. The underpinnings of the moral fabric were buckling, and the young were exposed to it. Well, get those young minds to march in lockstep with the gallant vigilante types who bolstered everything from the comic strips and pulps to the movie serials. These guys would lead the young of America, where the old establishment had failed. The vigilante had to take the law into his hands (as the early Batman's twin. 45 automatics spat death at those criminal gun toters; yes, the BAT used to be strapped, until the comic censors poo-poo'd that taboo) but did not stray from the true American social fabric, that made the country great, then. Greed made America falter, and only the morally upright would lift it back into place, or so the packaging hyperbole went!

Batman's origin story never made any sense. That's why I love the retcon of his mother being the one who orchestrated her husband's murder, but ended up getting killed, too. Also, Batman is a self-centered jerk. Instead of putting Joker and other villains in an easily escapable hospital, why not simply bribe a judge to put them in inescapable prisons. He already resorts to torture and other crimes, he should just go all the way and manipulate the justice system, maybe even get Joker the death sentence.
