Nah, Pile shouldn't have joined to begin with. It was much less common to be overweight in the 60's and the military training reflected that. It was designed to make weak men strong. It wasn't designed for the obese man. Pile therefore was unable to keep up in Vietnam the man who's slow is the man who dies. Expecting pile to make it, Hartman pushed him harder. He was a weak link and instead of casting him aside, Hartman tried to make him play catch up. It was honestly a service he was trying to provide both pile and the country at large.
@wugglebee9522
@wugglebee9522 Жыл бұрын
@@street_pisser Your mindset is so deeply, deeply messed up. You don't fix a "weak link" by hitting it harder. Had the Sergeant not been an abusive piece of shit, and instead encouraged and nourished Pyle, he could lose the weight and become a good soldier. But that's never going to happen if you just treat him like shit. And if anything, it weakens the military to only accept people that are willing to be abused by their superiors because it guarantees you'll only ever have emotionally stunted children in adult bodies doing the job. There's a reason so many people from the Vietnam war had their entire minds completely fucking destroyed. The US military and its recruitment/training were damaging, counter-productive and entirely unethical
@street_pisser
@street_pisser Жыл бұрын
@@wugglebee9522 The reason Vietnam vets are so fucked up is because they faced nightmares in the field. It was boot camp the gave them the training to come home. You don't make someone stronger by catering to them. The point of boot camp is to break a man down and rebuild him as a soldier. There's the reason we've been doing that for so long. It does work and it's what beat the Nazis whether Russian or American. If you were a Sargeant, soldiers would have no respect for you. You wouldn't be molding anybody into anything, because you're soft. Soft people lose wars. America wins them. The fact that you feel so strongly about a fictional character reveals how little you've lived. Your perspective is stunted, you don't see the world for how it is, but how you want it to be. Our military keeps all of NATO protected, billions of people are depending on American soldiers to be soldiers not someone that needed to be coddled during training.
