I am now a Carnivore and my last blood results after 100 hour fast - Total cholesterol 377 - I had to educate my doctor and refuse his offer of statins. Never been healthier and my joints now do not ache, my menopause issues have gone, I can now sleep, my brain has now begun to work again. 53 year old, UK size 8 now from a 12. Yes I eat meats, animal fats, eggs, fresh fish only - no veggies, no fruit now.

Keep in mind that if you eliminated your sugar and carbs and switched to a fat and protein diet for say, 6 weeks, it's possible that you would experience weight loss. If you then decided to get your blood work done your lipid values could be distorted. Therefore, wait until your weight stabilizes for a month or preferably two months before getting your blood tests.

Happily I have never liked sugar and frankly have never believed in the colesterol thing, and have always advocated for a wholesome diet. I think actually they add sugar to skimmed milk and who wants to drink or eat anything that has been messed about with ? What I do know is that exercise is key and to get the heart rate up daily even for a bit and eat eggs 🥚! Great vlog and just confirmed my gut feeling yay !

I’ve seen other talks that Dr Aseem has done on cholesterol & statins, so informative. I have cholesterol over 7 & was put on statins over 2 years ago which quickly lowered my cholesterol a lot, but I couldn’t tolerate them so came off them, despite GP’s at my surgery often trying to put me back on them. Now I am so much better informed & as a 62 year old it seems LDL can actually be helpful. Everyone should be aware that drug trials are largely funded by the drug companies & the fact they exclude people who can’t tolerate them is shocking. It’s all about the bottom line. I wouldn’t take them even if I had a heart attack as the numbers don’t seem to stack up. The sugar thing is very interesting! Thanks Liz & Dr Aseem.
@platosocrates2392 жыл бұрын
I too am 62. I had to come off statins because of side effects. My cholesterol is 9. I now eat one meal a day, have cut out the carbs. I eat a lot of greens and fish. My sweet consists of blueberries and cream. My weight has fallen from 81 to 75 kgs. I believe the problem is insulin resistance, something doctors simply don't talk about.

Excellent information from this good doctor. People need to listen to him because he is so well informed unlike the average big pharma educated physician. If your doctor is telling you otherwise than what Dr. Malhotra has to say, your doctor is falling behind in the latest research and not giving you the right information about your health.

I felt Dr. Aseem was too liberal with respect to fruit consumption. Just because whole fruit contains fiber and antioxidants does not mean it's fine. Almost any fruit will spike your blood sugar and provoke an insulin response, which Dr. Aseem correctly explained is a risk factor for heart disease. Therefore, most people need to be careful about consuming fruit. Some fruits are more "sugary" than others (e.g. ripe banana and other tropical fruits). Berries are a better choice.
@luckylisp4552 жыл бұрын
Raspberries don't engage the insulin system so are the best fruit from that perspective

@heredianna2496 Жыл бұрын
I am sorry but you can't just look at one data and say "this is bad", working out also "spike our blood"... Does it mean we should stop it too? Nope. There is fibers antioxidants a lot of water and vitamins in fruits... If you follow berries seasons you won't eat that much fruits.... Tropical fruits like Mangos are sweet but so full of fibers that you can't just bite into it. You need a knife to be able to eat it. Most people don't eat fruits as a meal but in small quantities at the end of a meal. So we should stop obsessing about every single thing without any context and without looking at the full spectrum of things.

If statins have an anti inflammatory and anti clotting effect - a common statement - then the question is for those with established heart disease (plaque and blockages) -what lifestyle changes (including foods) can have a similar effect to a statin? Can a combination of diet and exercise, stress reduction, a good sleep and being content with one’s lot have a similar or even greater effect than just the statin alone? This is the question I face right now!
@williambrookings722 Жыл бұрын
If you have established heart disease then no doubt you'll be on some form of anti platelet/ anti clotting agent already. It might be worth considering Co Enzyme Q10 supplementation as a potent antioxidant. It has been shown to reduce symptoms and mortality in patients with heart failure. It has also been shown to reduce average blood sugar levels and insulin resistance in people with diabetes. Interestingly statins reduce Co Enzyme Q10 production and statins are associated with a roughly 30% increased risk of diabetes. I would recommend Q10 for people on statins personally if people are happy to buy them

Hi,I've been listening to the discussion on Cholesterol. While having a scan they found a polyp which was growing in the gallbladder so they advised me to have the gallbladder removed which I did. I found out weeks later after pushing for information there was no polyp in there it was Cholesterol and bile salts,the hospital admitted unfortunately ,the diagnosis of polyps of the gallbladder is quite challenging and what the sonographer report as a polyp is in the very most of cases just a small stone with little(or no) calcium in it. Small cholesterol stones attached to the wall of the gallbladder are defined as cholesterolosis,but they can have appearance of polyps on the ultrasound scan.These are not my words these are the words that are written in the hospital report I received when I confronted them over my removal of my gallbladder.So from the information I have received the gallbladder can suffer from cholesterol too,how strange is that.

Before you have something removed from your body by the medical zealots get a second or even third opinion. It saved my ovary that a butcher doctor was going to remove at my tender age of 18. Something didn’t seem right to me and sure enough another more experienced doctor confirmed there was nothing wrong and the little discomfort i was experiencing will go away and it sure enough did. I must had a guardian angel watching over me because my reproductive organs were at stake here.

I’d recommend also listening to Malcolm Kendrick and David Diamond on the FH situation. They point out that many families with FH live with perfect health to a ripe old age. Some however have ‘thrombogenic’ factors related to their FH (tendency to form clots). Those are the people who might benefit from some kind of therapies, though not necessarily statins.

It can be very confusing to hear differing opinions from equally brilliant subject experts. I think if you watch a couple other interviews with Dr Malhotra, his view of the benefits of pcsk9 inhibitors will be more clear. The one clear takeaway from this is that your hdl/trig levels and ratio are more important markers of risk. Get your hdl up and trigs down. Btw, I have my first dose of Rapatha in the refrigerator and I haven't decided whether I'm going to take it or not.
