Man, why's everyone hating on Drew? He's doing exactly what the bassist is supposed to be doing, he's not overpowering the guitars, he's grooving harder than anyone out there (on or off-stage), and actually injecting some personality into the performance. Drew, you're the fuckin' boss, boss.

Idk the bassist from polyphia Clay is able to make much more busy and interesting bass lines without overpowering Scott and Tim. I know not all bass lines need to be busy but bass can be more than just playing root notes of chords or playing half notes.
@Palavalve
@Palavalve Ай бұрын
@@singhjack8064 Sure, but the focal point in Chon, as far as melody is concerned, is the two guitars. It's prog disguised as smooth, chill, easy listening music. I feel Drew locks into that vibe, where Polyphia composes songs that have many more opportunities for other members to break out and showcase their individual prowess. I feel it's almost a different game altogether, but I understand the sentiment. Still, Drew dominated what he was given. Edit: Also, I commented this 8 years ago, and to see you interacting with it so genuinely makes me so happy.

Countless times I have found myself here studying this style to incorporate a portion into my playing. Guthrie Govan, Gary Moore, SRV, Mario Camarena, Eric Hansel, John Mayer all make me feel this way too! Not to mention quite inspiring to me as a fellow musician with a vision and keeps me practicing every day. Thanks, CHON! I hope you read this someday!

Dunno where all this hate for the bassist is coming from. He's feeling the music, getting in the groove, being a stage presence, interacting with the crowd, being a 'live' musician. I thought it's mainly because of bass guitar he was using. Well plus his tone, it's different and maybe gives him not so much space for specific moves. But he did something in song "Book" and other songs. And i don't get it why people think that guitarists are much better than him and he doesn't suit the group. He plays this tone changing melodies as like one of the guitarists playing rhythm guitar. Some of their songs or tracks really much based on some kind of soulfunk & prog rock & smth else and they have strong rhythms and complex drum beats and they like it. Also sweeping & taping here is not that ultra hardcore, but you will need compressor for it for sure. they have songs mixed (or remixed?) with electronic music & synths & beats and they played in collaborations. I think they are not so worried about having some strict formula for some kind of success

Yeah, he’s cool. I don’t dig hollow body basses, but whatever, it’s his thing. Artists can do what they will, especially when it comes out sounding like this. I’ve also found that people don’t generally like the it when people really let their bodies go, along with the music. More than likely, they just can’t relate to giving yourself to something like that.

Never would have thought of running an Ibanez through a Vox but good on them, they definitely caught my attention by playing technical riffs with a semi-clean tone. I think it's a big reason why they stand out as a band. Playing very technical melodical metal type riffs with a vox chime. Alot of their tunes I think should be used as soundtracks for video games.

why people are complaining about the bassist? i'm 17 minutes in and still can't find his flaws. Yes he moves a lot , because he is grooving to the sounds of his OWN MUSIC. he is having a blast listening to his friends play with him , let him be. I consider this band talented as fuck and this is the first time i heard them. Also , the only two good comments i read are the ones asking for band info and comparing the bassist to arin hanson.

I just fell on this video. Never heard these guys before. I'm slightly envious of the bass players' feels. I'm a drummer and there's no better feeling than fading off on stage, waking up 4 minutes into a song and not knowing where you went for that few minutes. Kudos to him. He's having fun and that's all that matters. These bass players are gonna pick apart what he's playing, just as I could pick apart the drummer... but what's the point? They are talented af and having fun!

@@crimsonclover5037 oof right in the feels with that man, that feeling is absolute bliss. Have you heard of John Mayer talk about that intensity Stevie Ray Vaughn had? Which most musicians can only do for about 5 minutes, like absolutely in the zone. I think it's the same thing and something i've only experienced twice myself, on stage and during a jam, literally was sweating, wasn't a hard song, I'm a guitarist, wasn't moving too hard, but the absolute zone i was in was amazing, with the focus and adrenaline, I forgot we were on this planet let alone our music classroom. Also yeah Drew is honestly what made me love Chon, when i saw this video. I didn't understand all the hate people had for him. He contrasted Mario and Erick in terms of sound and set the live feeling for the band imo.
@drewgrahn3816
@drewgrahn3816 5 жыл бұрын
Funny how you say "his OWN MUSIC" when one of the main reasons he isn't in the band anymore is because Mario and Erick (the guitarists) have said they write all the bass parts. It sucks on the other hand because nowadays they have like, absolutely no stage presence. He seemed like the only one with a drop of charisma in him when they perform

MrTungtarung theres nothing wrong with his bass, he is clearly doing whatever he is a doing on purpose. he selectively plays some parts in a vague, mellow sounding manner. this is liekly out of boredom witht he "businesses as usual" formula that we see in the stagnation of bass guitar in general. it gives it some characteristic and i really like it =) i would suggest maybe listening to some jazz or for more understanding of something sounding "out of place" but being intentfullly done that way, maybe some noise or grunge music to soften you into the concept. haha.
