The first time i heard Khruangbin was on a Late Night Tales mix. I was in Chiang Mai, Thailand, I had been there for a year, and had to move back to the US. I put on my headphones and went for one last motorcycle ride through the city, I had never ridden with headphones on before. "A Calf Born in Winter" came on, I joined the flow of constant scooter traffic and took in the beauty of that vibrant, vibrating city one last time, and I cried. It was purely coincidence that it was that song, by a band who's name means "Engine Fly" in Thai, and who were heavily influenced by Thai funk, was my soundtrack for that final ride. I'll never forget it, one of the most bittersweet moments of my life. This band is really something special.

@@philesq9595 it sounds crisp and clean partly because of the arrangement being so well put together, each instrument has its space, they're probably using some very nice preamps as well as the mics for that vintage sound. that drummer and his grooves, spot on bands are only as good as their drummer.....the ability/maturity to simplify and fit the song is the greatest struggle for most musicians, especially for drummers and soloing instruments the more you master an instrument the less notes you have to play, the space between sound becomes its own instrument that accomplishes more than playing thousand of notes fast as you can great band

Couldn't be more spot on about the mastering an instrument and playing less notes! Especially for guitar. If you love Khruangbin, check out Skinshape. Similar vibe but just one guy who records it all!
@Rayan-zt7kl4 жыл бұрын
I’m gonna have to disagree with that last statement. Mastering an instrument does not mean you play less notes, it’s more picking and choosing when and when not to play that is mastery. In respect to guitar players, Di Meola, Holdsworth, John Mclaughlin, Rosenwinkle, and even modern players like Andre Nieri and Wes Hauch play A LOT of notes and they are certainly masters. All that is matters is that it sounds good, too many times I see people looking down upon playing fast because it has no “feel” or just because they can not do it. If you play fast and it sounds good then keep doing it, and if you play something slow and it sounds good that’s awesome too, but don’t call the person who plays less a master if they don’t have the technique to player at higher speeds. Side note though, I think all 3 of them are fantastic musicians and I love their music. They all have great phrasing and technique.

Why aren't any of these comments for this bar-none like no other,guitar player that ive ever seen play so seemingly flawless and fluid as a river of pure joyful pleasure waves of kaleidoscopic blessings that this 52 year old has ever received! God has truly blessed your lives, and therefore mine! Thank you!

Absolutely true.. he's getting way little love for being the sound of the band.. so smooth, accurate and melodic.. truly a guitarist who's mastered his instrument..

I'm having a hard time deciding which bandmember is cooler. It's like they're all superheroes with their own distinct stories and this band is their team-up where they join forces to save the world with psychedelic funk.

The guitarist is the coolest. He’s doing it without the natural advantages of the other two 😀

i’ve been writing a khruangbin comic where they reach enlightenment and save the world yeah

They should trim this set, make it an album and put it on Spotify because the quality is a 10000000 times better than their album. Like I can't listen to it on spotify after listening to this set anymore.

Sohaib M should make a live album from this set
@nelsonstaxx59915 жыл бұрын
I agree, the production on their albums is lame and makes them sound boring, this, and other live sets I've seen (kexp,tiny desk concerts etc) sound so much better than their records.
