Please welcome bone pathology expert Dr. Andrew Rosenberg as a special guest on my channel. Dr. Rosenberg shared his cases and expertise with me and several colleagues around the multiheaded microscope on May 10, 2018. It was a master class in bone and cartilage histology and pathology. I learned so much from it, and I hope you will, too. I made four separate videos from his teaching session:
- Bone Histology & Embryology: kikoxp.com/posts/4166
- Cartilage Histology & Embryology: kikoxp.com/posts/4437
- Enchondroma vs Chondrosarcoma: kikoxp.com/posts/4178
- Secondary Peripheral Chondrosarcoma: kikoxp.com/posts/4435
Topics Discussed in this Video:
(coming soon - if you want to type up a list with time stamps and post in comment section, I'd be happy to copy/paste them here and give you credit!)
Please check out my Soft Tissue Pathology & Dermatopathology survival guide textbooks: bit.ly/2Te2haB ‬

My dad was just diagnosed with extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma. He fell and broke his back. Found a tumor on the spine near where his L5 fragmented. Then tumors on his femur, pelvis, shoulder, one between the heart and liver, and now they found one on the bone under his eye socket.

Update: According to the WHO 5th edition (2020) book, "central atypical cartilaginous tumor" is the recommended term for grade 1 chondrosarcoma arising in a long bones; in the pelvis or axial skeleton, they are still referred to as grade 1 chondrosarcoma. A complete organized library of all my videos, digital slides, pics, & sample pathology reports is available here: kikoxp.com/posts/5084 (dermpath) & kikoxp.com/posts/5083 (bone/soft tissue sarcoma pathology).

Great podcast. Currently dealing with a 2 cm bony lesion on my left femur neck, looks like an Enchondroma based on Dr. Rosenberg's criteria. The lesion is T1 hypo intense and T2 STIR hyperintense and also in MRI FS PD images. I will see a bone oncologist soon for a 100% diagnosis. The lesion looks like a "bubble rings and arcs" near the neck of the proximal left femur (2cm wide.) I don't see cortex invasion or soft tissue destruction.

Thanks for this great presentation! I wonder if cartilage tumors produce angiogenesis or are they avascular like normal hialine cartilage.

I’m sorry to hear this. An orthopedic oncologist is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in surgical treatment of bone (and soft tissue) tumors. They deal with both benign and malignant tumors so don’t let the word “oncologist” scare you. Please search for an orthopedic oncologist in your area. They often work at university hospitals or other large cancer centers because they are very specialized. Best wishes for health and healing.
