This is actually their most popular song on Spotify and was prominently featured in the Netflix movie Kate. They actually had a performance scene and gained some new fans. I don't know if it was a set closer in this concert but in their recent US tour it was in the middle of the set and Saiki's vocals were powerful. I find Saiki's vocal cadence to be mesmerizing in this song. What is funny is Saiki asked Kanami to write another song like this and Kanami somehow ended up with Corallium
@edwardallen40512 жыл бұрын
I think it was the closer here, It was the closer on the World Domination Tour (Shibuya 2020 for example)
@falconsooner2 жыл бұрын

@@JbfMusicGuitar Apparently Kanami is very much a "mood" writer and she has said it can be difficult for her to write songs similar to those she wrote years ago because she is in a different place mentally and emotionally. For example....many of their more recent songs are more aggressive and chaotic (aka Black Hole, Hate, Corallium etc) because of the angst she felt during the pandemic. However, she was inspired to write a lot of riffs and stuff during their triumphant US tour last October so it will be interesting to see what those songs will sound like)

I was at the London show in 2019 (Akane no Tiny Hat) but had forgotten that they used to do an instrumental intro to Choose Me. Great memories- its been three years now without Band-Mad live. 2023 has got to be Europe's turn.

This one has been recorded on the 17th of Nov. 2018 at the Dome. On their European Tour 2019 Saiki started "Choose me" all alone and then the band followed. I have great memories as well, for I was in Bochum and Hamburg. Here is a reminder for You: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gH7Fdmt_ZrtloMU

Ah, yes!. THAT intro. Some of their most adorable musical segments are intros or variations to their songs... which only last for one season!. This intro piece from Choose Me or another from Clang, several edited for the song Play, the interlude on the bridge from Domination... all these few bar lines will be lost like tears in the rain...🥲

I went to two of their shows during their US tour (NY and Boston) and I was blown away by their energy and their talent. Unlike Chemical Reaction, I love this song because even though it feels straightforward, there's a lot of dynamics and quite a lot of really nice intricate details going on in the background, but the song never looses it's forward momentum.

On your question at the end, Band-Maid don't do encores, and they vary their closing song (I think Domination is the most common choice but someone will probably correct me). I love the intro they added to Choose Me that tour. In particular, I know Miku has much more difficult parts in many other songs, but somehow her demeanour in this intro gives the same "born to be a guitarist" vibe that I normally associate with Kanami.

They closed every show on their October '22 U.S. tour with Domination ... but they hadn't written it yet when this was recorded.

One of the few songs of theirs that has an old-school Rock ending, with lots of extended notes and then a jump from everyone and a slam of the drums from band leader Akane to all end together. For their USA tour, they've been ending the shows with a tease from Akane - as they all wait for the final slam of her sticks so they can all hit their last note and Akane winds them up with false endings (such as here, on their final song in New Jersey, 'Domination' - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zl6kma2Bf7R6nM0 ). There's a lot of great fan cam clips on YT from this tour and much of it has been captured with very decent film and audio - I've seen one binaural film and one superbly edited film of 'Sayonakidori', the song that has no Saiki but Miku doing all the vocals ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYPNfnd6Z7l4iqM ). There are probably enough clips for you to look at one every day between now and the New Year...but enough unsubtle hints from me. PS Japanese bands don't do encores as it implies that the band haven't already given everything they have but they will keep a fan favourite or two as their last 1 or 2 numbers.

It's the best way to be honest, you can usually squeeze in another song if you don't duck out. Unless it's like a 3 hour set, then fair enough- that wee break would probably be needed!
