Skagway train ride was amazing. The best part was being able to step out of the train and stand out side between the cars was amazing. I stood there for a long time enjoying the sceneries. (Look for the hidden sasquatch).

We were there in Sept 2024. The train was great!

Did you book the train ride with cruise line or at train station? What’s the best time to get on the train? Heard it’s about 3 hours round trip. We’re cruising late May. Thanks!
@deebell8727Ай бұрын
@icedteamama176 we did it through the cruise line. When you book through the cruise line they make sure you get to your excursions and back guaranteed. We booked our ride time soon after getting there. We then had time to walk through the town and grabbing something to eat after the train ride. We ate breakfast on the ship then went on the train ride. There are bathrooms on the train.

FYI... On our 2nd trip to Alaska, I got really sick with bronchitis and had to cancel 1 excursion. I had to see a doctor on the ship. I was advised to take my receipts from the doctor to the front desk, and the excursion was canceled, and our money for it was reimbursed. Normally, they will not reimburse you your money for a missed excursion (you have to cancel at least 3 days ahead, and ours was the next day).

Agree with crab fishing tour. We had a great time and was lucky enough to get a seat on the front row. Can’t beat Victoria. We arrived at 8 pm and that’s way too late for us so we caught the bus and walked around. In 2019 we did the walking tour with our daughters ending in downtown. Thanks for sharing

@stevecummins6179 how was your whale watching excursion? Did you see whales?? I wondered about doing an excursion like that but wondered if it is worth it?
@stevecummins61793 ай бұрын
@@deebell8727 We actually changed our plans and did a whale watching tour in Icy Strait (because Skagway got cancelled on our sailing). We were able to visit the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau. Highly recommend. To answer your question, YES, we actually followed a pod of humpbacks as they were feeding for most of our excursion. It was pretty incredible.

Thinking of booking whale watching when we land in Juneau port since weather is so unpredictable…we’ll be there late May.

Where are you seeing these prices? Did you book these outside of the cruise line at the port itself?

The stop in Canada was disappointing that we got there so late at night. We were given less than 3 hours so we still went to check it out. At night with the lights in the city and the horse drawn carriages was so beautiful. It is a beautiful city but most every place was closed. Wish we could have gotten there earlier and spent more time there.

We signed up for an excursion that took us to a salmon fish hatchery and then took us to Mendenhall Glacier. After that we were taken to a place where we were given lunch. Salmon, ribs, salad, cornbread and other stuf. A bar was set up there to. The area was beautiful. Covered patios next to a small creek where you can see salmon and a short walk up to a waterfall. All of this in one day. It was really nice! What was nice about this excursion is they picked you up and had a tour guide and drove you to these places and picked you up to take you back to your ship. Very convenient.

Lumberjack show was that price if you just show up or did you purchase a ship excursion
@ReeceS64199 ай бұрын
Surely it was in person price because through the cruise line it will cost me and my husband well over 400.00 to see lumberjack show. Excursions through cruise line are ridiculous but you have to worry about timing and possibly being left if you run late. 🤦🏼♀️
@jennieobrien3141Ай бұрын
Our ship (Princess Saphire) is $43 per person for the lumberjack show. Summer of 2025. We are doing the totem pole state park and lumber jack show package at $125 each.

I wouldn't book Discovery Channel Alaska due to the exception they gave you. I don't have kids by choice and I try to avoid them. I look for tours that are all adult or a min. age of 10. The last thing I want to hear on a tour is a screaming child. These tour operators should be concerned with following their restrictions.
