I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for six MLF Championships and won roughly a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

Thanks Matt. I just bought a glass rod for chatterbaits and haven't fished it yet but did make a few cast with it. I really did think I noticed more action in my chatterbait. A little worried about clearing grass thought.

Im a big fiberglass rod guy with fast Action works great for me. Only got two carbon rod's that are okay but s not me. I've had better luck with softer rod's. I got people telling me that my rods are to soft but I get the bigger one's more often. Maybe I it let's them grab it better before I pull the rod on them and pull out the hook before the bass IS ON THE HOOK. To put them on lock down.

I went though errors using a cranking rod and coming unbuttoned with a chatter. Weighing many reviews and options I got an ALX chatterbait model and it's glass, a thick blank but its not a heavy rod at all. If fish really thick tons of hydrilla i have no problems burying it in it and ripping out cause its heavy power and a lot of back bone and fast action model with still parabolic tip and not whippy like a crankbait rod. Fish come up and from that back and suck it in and i hook them now with no problem like you said just start reeling.. been really pleased with that one so far. Great info..

That was a good approach even do I do not make my own rods and have no intention to do it. I simply try to apply some analogy with the different rods in the Market. Looking at the title you may start a series on what Rod/Reel/line to use into the most important/specific lures for Bass. Learning new little details on your videos. Thanks.

Just picked up a shimano zodias 7'2 H glass blend for my 3/4-1oz chatterbaits and heavy spinnerbaits. Never owned a glass rod or glass blend rod so im excited to see how it fairs up. Haha that shamless plug line. The guppy heads are really good. Won the last month's giveaway and went to Michigan to get some smallies and it worked great.

I have a 7'4 MH Mojo Glass, and a slow speed Curado 200K with a Scorpion MGL spool. It's heavy compared to a composite or graphite rod, but I haven't lost a fish this season on a chatterbait because of the parabolic action. I was using a medium extra fast shimano compre last season for chatterbaits, and I lost quite a few when they'd jump.

Great info Matt, that was a dramatic intro 🤭. I’m sure all on here know about the Guppy heads, but here is my perspective in case a few have not tried them yet. The lead from the head continues down the shank of the hook keeps the swimbait parallel in the water when you stop your retrieve. This is deadly on deep bridge pilings, just cast past the piling you can just follow the line bowing the rod tip. When the line stops set the hook. The 3/8 oz 1/0 hook is my fav you can fish a 3.3” Kietech easily in 20 feet. Word on the street, TW has all weights, colors and hook sizes.
