Just going over the differences between the rough 3 categories of compressors. Generally speaking its a story of "buy once cry once" type of deal for a compressor, but i think a big takeaway from this is 90% of airgunners are better off buying a large airtank vs dealing with the compressor.

I have the Hill EC 3000 that I purchased 2 years ago and it works great. I have since purchased your Guppy tank, which is an excellent tank compared to all others.

Just found your store today. Wish I had found it earlier. I have one of those mini pumps. Never used it, and now not sure if I ever will. But I do have a large tank and will likely use that for all range needs of my Airguns.

Good advice Joe. i’m almost pulled the trigger on a $2000 compressor but I have a scuba shop 20 minutes away so instead I bought two great whites and the scuba shop only charges me $14 to fill both of them. I also bought a booster pump for my big bore Hammer.

Hey Joe nice comparison on the compressors, I have the nomad I only have a couple airguns it works perfect, and I like the fact that I can haul it in my UTV wherever I go and run it off that battery. On another subject do you take in used airguns in trade, have a beautiful FX crown. Let me know if you do if not if you know of a site where a person could sell or trade their used air guns that would be great thank you.

I used a hand pump with the blue dessicant beads to dry the air. Are you saying this ceeates acid? If so will you using a couple times ruin the gun?

Fantastic video. Thank you so much. Not being in any rush to fill my gun. I am buying FX impact. I’ve just seen that the tanks are 7 or 8 hundred with all the adapters. So in your opinion, I am just going to be filling the tank on the gun. What would you suggest for a compressor for price and longevity to do the job correctly? Fred

Thanks for the guidance. Do hand pumps suffer from the moisture issue that small compressors suffer from?
@AirGunScientist
@AirGunScientist Жыл бұрын
TOTALLY!!! That is why won't sell the hand pumps. They require a filter. That, and the cost of them as well as all the effort, make them worthless if they still need a filter.

Well, I jumped in a bought a cheap air compressor unit, and have been trying to sort out what makes sense for a filter. Have not used it yet. Here is one thought: Fill up an intermediate (carbon fiber) relatively high volume tank, THEN use it to top up my rifle at the range. My hope is that Moisture will form to water inside the tank and drop out, and holding tank upright I'll get relatively moisture free air out of this tank. Any comments on the effectiveness of this idea? (Thanks in advance!)

I can actually partially answer this one. Imagine squeezing a wet paper towel; a lot of water comes out, but the towel is still soaked even though it occupies less space. So you might avoid liquid water in your airgun doing that, but the air will still be 100% humid if that makes sense. Can still cause problems over time

Sorry for the goofy analogy, it’s the best I’ve got at 3am. Best advice I can give is research into what makes a good moisture filter or rent a high pressure nitrogen tank from a welding supply. Both have hidden costs and advantages/ disadvantages. Ex with nitrogen, I have a spec sheet that tells me exactly how much moisture is in the tank (it’s a stupid small amount that cannot be matched on an individual scale), I’m not responsible for hydro testing, etc Downsides are the tank weighs almost 300 pounds and all airgas had at my location was the high purity version, so it was more expensive up front. I also have a yearly rental.

Upsides to the filter would be portability, freedom from having to pay for fills, no worries about a shop skimping on changing the filter on time and getting bad air, some others im surly forgetting to mention. Downsides for a filter, it’s not quite as plug and play as you might think. To high a flow rate through the filter and the molecular sieve doesn’t have the time to adsorb the water. if the filter doesn’t have a pmv (pressure maintaining valve); not enough liquid water drops out before the molecular sieve and you will quickly saturate the filter media rendering it useless. There’s also the modest cost of filters or materials to repack the filter if that’s an option, they have a life span that depends on ambient temperature (correlated to how much noisture the air can hold), humidity, and what quality of air your compressor puts out. Most cheaper compressors are going to have some oil blow by that can shorten the filter life if allowed to reach the media. Hope my rambling has helped boss. Happy shooting!!

To be honest I don't mind filling a bucket to provide water cooling, some scientific equipment works the same. Shame on them for not including a water pump, this seems a bit too much of cost cutting as these pumps cost like nothing but can be pain to route and provide power to.

INTERESTING: The link to topgun airguns above lists the same filter mandated in the video. Around 5 minute mark he states that a molecular sieve filter is dangerous. Here's a quote on the filter he mentioned "1). We use Molecular Sieve, (not Silica Gel); Recognized in the industry as being the “best'” Somebody is full of SHIT
@AirGunScientist
@AirGunScientist 3 ай бұрын
We are talking about having the molecular sieve directly in contact with the aluminum tube as it the moisture will corrode and compromise structural integrity of the tube. Ours is contained in a cartridge then inserted in the tube so the molecular sieve makes zero contact with the aluminum. hope this clears up any confusion. 😎

@@AirGunScientist This is the first of your videos I've encountered. Your commentary seems like a pretty common sense approach; enough so that I just subscribed and plan to learn all I can on this topic. I would think that sitting arm's length away from a cylinder running around 2,000-3,000 psi would discourage most people from taking the "cheapest online purchase I can find" approach. I've witnessed the injuries that even a very small explosive can cause. Caution tells me that maybe the smarter approach might be paying a commercial shop for their services until I can save enough to buy one of those first two you described. A couple thousand bucks seems like a slower but much smarter approach. In the mean time I'll use a fancy bicycle pump when I can't find a dive shop. Keep those videos coming.... thanks!
