watching this in 2020! best advice i've ever heard from this vid was to choose a guitar based on the size that suits you rather than sounds, appearance, etc.. and i'd been doing it backwards this whole time! i guess i should be shopping around for a guitar in person rather than online. ^^; i really want solid top mahogany, though. T__T

Kudos to you sir for approaching the subject of fit and shape as it applies to individual players. Little to zero is mentioned of this when perusing music stores.

You're amazing! So glad I found your channel. But I'm right handed and I play with the guitar on my left leg... I just cross my legs with the left one on the top of the right one and the guitar fits nicely. I don't feel any pain and I can't play any other way without losing performance. I play fingerstyle :-)

THANK YOU!! After watching so many videos trying to make sure I buy the right guitar for me this is the very FIRST one that actually addresses the size in a very clear, concise and informative manner. Bless you!

Thanks. I found it surprising that so few beginner guides talk about guitar size issue. Most of the beginner guide focus on tone and play style. My right shoulder started to hurt after a week of using my first guitar which is a dreadnought size guitar. Eventually I found the right size for me at my 3rd purchase (exchanged the first one and CraigList the 2nd). If only there were a size guide available, it’d have save me troubles and pain.

play style is stupid because not everyone plays only one kind of song. I want to play all kinds.

My first Yamaha FG830, weight 6.69 lbs. Second Martin D16E, weight 4.5 lbs, same size (dreadnaught) Check the weight not only the size.

I spent 500€ on a guitar that's too big for me...i admit i cried for a hour due to how many sacrifices i had to do to get the money. I don't know what to do tbh, i started feeling bad about the guitar after 1 or 2 weeks of playing, because i kept telling myself that i was the problem, but my posture is right and i'm getting better and better still. My shoulder is relaxed, i don't build tension anymore but my shoulder keeps giving me pain. Forgot to mention, i'm 168cm tall, i'm using a Cort GA style guitar. Also i'm mainly a fingerpicking guitarist, i like strumming but it's absolutely not my focus. When i strum, i don't have *that* many problems, but when it comes to fingerstyle in general, the size gives me so many problems, it's not comfortable. Also my hands' palm is pretty big, but my fingers are short, and that guitar has a V shaped neck. I should sell it, the guitar is in excellent conditions but i know i'd lose more than a hundred due to lost value. I'm so desperate...

hey, i know the times seem tough but i'm sure you'll make some good money by selling it and earn more money over time to buy a new guitar :) don't worry or regret it too much we all make mistakes like these when buying a guitar you'll be fine!

Thank you Sir. As a petite female going to guitar shop was so frustrating. The gentlemen were not understanding the size awkwardness and discomfort I spoke of.

I understand this completely. It's as if they only consider the smaller guitars suitable for children only. Never mind that grown people come in all sizes.

I didn't know how important to choose between sizes till know. Luckily I bought a (Fender 125) which is just OK for the size. There were a lot more guitars in the shop, but the neck of this just felt thicker, more comfortable. The sales guy insisted that he doesn't feel the difference, I should choose the (really) better sounding (and a lot more expensive one) but I went with this. I look forward to watching the other video on the neck..

That was useful to show and explain the smaller size. Which might be better for me, I was stretching on a dreadnought and felt a bit bulky. What is the smaller size model please?
