In this video I discus your decisions on an amp, subwoofer, and power combination. The difference between going 4ohm,2ohm, and 1ohm. How you decide which fuse to use and where in the power cable to put it. How your sub dictates how much power your amp can put to it and how that makes the amp draw power from your vehicle and why certain ohm subs work better for certain instances.

Great video! I just bought the same amp, and went with the V2 of this sub rated at 1000rms; I've seen the tests too, and the amp will easily do 2200w @ 1 ohm. I do plan on using the sub wired to 1 ohm. Should I go with a 160 amp fuse with this setup then as you suggest? I am unsure if my battery and alternator will work, I am going to be putting it into a 2007 3 series BMW, usually the stock alternators do produce fantastic power.

You will be over 160 amps at 2200w. I think I would go with somewhere around a 200amp fuse. That will give you enough head room for hard hitting frequencies and still protect the amp if you go full send on the sub. As far as the alternator you can google what the stock one runs on your ride and if you notice too much headlight fade at night toggle it down with the bass knob until it stops. Need to calculate efficiency. The amp will pull more than 111 amps. Still, bass music not being continuous, your fuse should be fine. My Sundown SFB 3000D is only 70% efficient.

I only need 1,500w from mine and at that efficiency it will pull 156 amps.

You can attempt to calculate the efficiency as best you can but with all things not being equal the calculation is a guess. This is just a method to calculate the amps vs watts vs volts so that a guy can get a ball park estimate and add in a little extra protection to get a safe working system that wont catch his car on fire. The point I am making is to put in the lowest fuse that will allow the system to operate efficiently and still provide fail points so that if there is a problem the fuse will let go. When I talked about what fuses I am using and the amps drawn, I got my info directly from an amp dyno test conducted by Williston Audio who has an excellent video conducting the dyno on this amp. I think they did one on the SFB3000D as well. Should take a look atit.

That’s the fuse that protects the power cable from the battery to the fuse that protects the amp itself. That fuse is to stop a short in the actual power cable from burning up or catching fire.
