I remember watching this a couple years ago when I came back to catfishing, I hadn't done so in 20 years. I've migrated to really heavy fast action rods. I run my reels in free spool, let the fish run a second then click the reel locking the spool. I have no problem with circle hooks missing this way. Appreciate the information

My dad bought a fourteen foot rod from a garage sale for three bucks that was missing some guides. This is his river fishing bank fishing rod. He doesn't really fish with it that much it's more of a joke. I think he has thirty pound mono on the reel.

What are your thoughts on that one that you showed that is white with yellow and black trim on the line guides? That looks like the Goture which I'm looking at on Amazon. They have that in 7 ft and 7.6 ft two piece configuration. Some people say it's a broomstick, others say it's super wobbly. Or from what you showed in yours it looks like it bends down through the middle quite a bit. I currently use the ugly stik catfish special (the new orange ones) at 8 ft length and I have one of the newer ugly stick white catfish rods in a 7-ft length. The difference between those two for me is the action on the tip. The catfish special is a moderate tip and the white ones are moderate fast. They both have medium/ heavy power. I have a love-hate relationship with them. But anyway I'd love to hear your thoughts on everything above. Thanks!

So go to a braid main line. I can cast 50 lb braid with a 2 oz weight and bait a country mile. I only have mono as main line on one rod, and that's for extreme Rocky areas. But even in Rocky areas I am fine and don't break off or lose much fish with 50lb braid main line and a 40lb mono leader. That's how I have been doing it for 12 years now cause braid is thin and you get more on the spool and you can cast it twice as far as mono.
@Lanny-io9bi Жыл бұрын
I always run 50-65lb braid for my main lines and adjust the leaders accordingly.... that braid like you mentioned helps you get wayy out there if needed

It doesn't sling a ton of weight but other than that, it's built to last and I love the hookup ratio with this rod. It has great bend to it

@reelcatfishing44795 жыл бұрын
I think I really wanna try one out lol. I don't own one but I continue to hear great things about them for the price! When I get one, I'll review it after some trips
@hfsoutdoors85815 жыл бұрын
Reel Catfishing thinking of getting the rover 80 or 70 due to fact i like to use 50 pound mono. I also like to use heavy weights due to current, I use 6 to 8 sinkers can cast em pretty darn far. I have custom meat hunter rods that are made to throw heavier weights than that, what are your thoughts, thanks again for your time.

SS eyes are not going to last a lifetime, especially if you are using braid. About 30 years ago rod maker quit using SS guides because of the wear of mono and it is worse with braid. Yeah, it sucks to have an insert pop out but I still think they are a good option.

You never mentioned length. For bank fishermen, length determines whether you live or die. If you cannot reach the area you need to fish, then you are not doing anything more than having a nice quiet time out by the water. Length is what casts your bait farther, out where the Catfish are holding.
