So I live in DFW but travel to west Texas for work. My objective opinion. Amarillo is a better option if you are older. Nice neighborhoods. Pretty quiet place to visit or live. Lubbock is better for younger people (under 60). Lubbock seems to have more activity…however…seems like Lubbock could be more dangerous. Although…Lubbock has nice neighborhoods especially in the southwest area of the city. After staying in both cities…I prefer to stay in Lubbock and drive to Amarillo.

Thanks so much. Yes there are new construction duplexes. Most will be on the North and South side of town. North is going to be a little less expensive but great opportunities. Both are good places to live. The best neighborhoods in Amarillo are nicer than the best neighborhoods in Lubbock. But Lubbock has Tech and slightly more shopping/restaurants than Amarillo.

She didn’t mention the wages are more in Amarillo, Amarillo has a hockey team and a semi professional baseball team with a fantastic stadium downtown, a better Colosseum and a completely revamped downtown that looks more like Fort Worth than Lubbock.. plus Amarillo has a zoo better museums and a larger mall… plus Amarillo has 100s of restaurants, a fantastic amusement park and waterpark and is located on I 40 (America’s highway)

I just move to Lubbock from Amarillo and the wages are NOT higher in Amarillo! The fantastic downtown things you love were forced on taxpayers AFTER we voted them down. The mall is basically dead. As far as restaurants go, Lubbock has just as many. Te amusement parks and water parks are over priced tourists traps.

Does Amarillo have anything comparable to the United Supermarket Arena or Buddy Holly Hall? Also, Tech sports from September-June….Downtown Lubbock needs a lot of work, but there are plans in place and it should get up to speed in a few years.

Lived in Lubbock in my 20s now 60s in Amarillo similar size and weather. Lubbock has better shopping and Medical access. I believe crime is worse in Lubbock. Amarillo is two counties Potter and Randal Both are conservative big plus ! Ps big fast growth is not always a good thing!

Both should expand their convention centers, build hotels downtown. South Plain mall is better than the one Amarillo. Texas Tech helps Lubbock economically but Amarillo is gonna have a Bucees to help Amarillo economically. Lubbock is dusty in springtime and Amarillo is windy.

Idk about Amarillo, but Lubbock is outrageously concentrated on the far east side. So unless you go there it’s actually crazy safe.

Lived there while I was at Tech and no it wasn’t. The only advantage Lubbock has over Amarillo is the university and the better stores at the mall. Moved to Amarillo after I graduated and haven’t looked back. I am 25 and have lived here for 3 yrs now and it’s definitely better than Lubbock.
