I have come to these you tube videos late. I don’t think that I have ever watched someone so real and so reflective, in the best way. I have been deeply moved by Dr. Dan’s videos. I don’t know if he is still with us but I want him, his family and everyone else to know that he is an inspiration to me in my own struggles and I can only hope to be as “real” as he has been in facing mortality. Thank you Dan.

Hi Dr. Dan, I was finding it strange not to see any video of you lately with the excellent fundamental teaching. I just have to thank you for your time in sharing your knowledge with us. I have made several attempts to comment this video now but they just come out so superficial, and so will this attempt. I am very sorry for what has happened. I have been watching and enjoying your videos from the very start and I felt incredibly sad to see that you have been affected by this horrible disease. I'm about your age and I have been suffering from chronic pain for several years. At times I have felt very sad and bitter over my situation. Your words hit me hard and I will carry them with me for the rest of my life. When my wife and baby boy came downstairs from having a nap I told them about you and cried. I hugged and kissed them and was reminded of what really matters in life. I will do my very best to refuse the sadness and bitterness I sometimes feel over my own situation and instead be greatful for the life I have. Thank you for having such deep impact on me. I found your video searching for “diagnosis ALS” and never heard of you before this comment. My friend in Texas was diagnosed with this horrible illness last week. Her mental state has deteriorated rapidly thinking about the family she’s leaving behind, the stress of affording her medical expenses, as well as her physical symptoms. I didn’t know what this disease was until she got it. You are handling this exceptionally well. There’s no wrong or right way of handling it, but something has to be said for someone who comes to terms with this fate and decides to make peace with everything around him. I hope we get a cure or an effective treatment soon. Stay strong Dan.

Hi Dr Dan, sorry to hear of this news mate. The guitarist Jason Becker got ALS at 18 years of age and is still alive today (now 52). He's my guitar idol so I've always fkn hated ALS. Anyway you speak like you don't have long left but I think that's entirely up to you. Jason has composed music in his wheelchair for many years and released a new album recently. Goes to show you can still follow your passions despite this illness.... Take care.

Don't excuse yourself about this being a kinda rant video! I guess your at a point in your life where the road got very difficult/impossible to go on. You can teach most of us who are too busy thinking about the road because we don't have to at this moment, very important lessons and warnings!! Hey Dan! Not comparing myself to others is increadibly hard for me to achieve as I am a very competitive person, but it is something I will work on. I got a playlist called 'watch once per year' which contains just a handful of carefully selected videos on various topics. As the title suggests, I will watch these videos at least once per year to remind myself of what my past self perceived as the most valuable advice. I'm older than you by more than a decade and did not accomplish this much, i.e. start a family. Not to compare :) Your videos resonate clearly. Sam Harris has some great content on KZbin called Death and Present Moment. It very much touches on topics of happiness and how we rob ourselves of it, whether we're subconsciously thinking about the future or focused too much on the past... how they're both constructs of now. In the words of Captain Picard, "Make now always the most precious time. Now will never come again."
