No, not safe, because you can never know whether there can get a reflecting object in the beam. Drop a key, a tool, another laser; It's not enough that it does not kill your eye most of the time. Ok, with loosing one eye, you only loose 3D vision.

Wish I would have watched this before thinking the pair I got with the Thor M2 would cut it. I'm wondering if a pair of eagle eye quality red-lensed eye protective glasses/goggles having a 4+ OD that (nearly completely) blocks the transmission of laser emited light of 100 mW radiant power in the blue-green spectral range will remain equally opaque to the laser beam incident to the lens for a period longer than a fraction of a second? or that such a beam focused over the same patch of the lens' surface for longer than a fraction of a second will transmit a proportion of the beam's radiant flux at an acceleratory rate such that the total or near total beam's radiant flux passes through the lens; that is, does the full thickness of the eagle eye 4+ OD red lens become essentially transparent to the 100mW radiant power of say any given wavelength of a blue or green light laser beam held focused over a patch of the red lens' surface for period longer than a brief moment, for more than one or two seconds?

+Bluntski Red lasers and green lasers. Unless your green laser is IR filtered, green lasers produce a lot of IR.
@Windschutzscheibe Жыл бұрын
@@wildfireman13 IR can also leak from cheap 532nm green lasers. Most of them don’t have an IR filter, which makes their diffuse reflection (e.g. dot on the wall, head of a match etc) dangerous to look at. Even if you use some cheap goggles like in this video, because these don’t filter IR light. This is partially why most of these green “ebay lasers” are much stronger than they actually seem. Although you can buy attachable IR filter lens on ebay for around $5 that can be glued on the optics of your laser.

Timothy Mitchell Wielding goggles are similar to sunglasses as they are not suited nor designed for blocking specific wavelengths of light. Again, before even purchasing a laser, it is crucial that you buy laser safety goggles that correspond to the laser's wavelength. "You can't put a pricetag on your eyesight"

Do you meen 532nm? Nm is nanometer AKA emission color of your laser. Anything above 15mW needs goggles. A green laser is safe at 15mW, 405nm to 480nm are still pretty dangerous at 5mW. Red ones can go up to 15mW. Keep in mind that 90% of ebay lasers are overspec and sometimes emit more then 40mW. Search for DPSS green laser wikipedia, and you will also see why green lasers are pretty dangerous with goggles as they also emit a ton of infrared radiation.

If u want to play it safe, take an IR filter out a old camera or phone camera, and put this in your laser, and get goggles if your laser emits more then 15mW

Do you like being able to see? There are lasers out there that we can all buy which are capable of instantly blinding someone *permanently for life*. Your eyes are too precious to be futzing with these things and not protecting them. Once you burn your eyes you might wish you never laid a finger on a laser in your life. For my 1 watt 405nm laser, I ordered an Eagle Pair from Amazon for $42.00. Of course Amazon is not the only place to get these and google will help you find them. Just make sure they cover the parts of the spectrum that your lasers emit and make sure that they are not cheap eBay specials that come to a whopping total of $5.00 for TWO or other ridiculously cheap ones. These are what I bought and they are also a brand that was recommended at Laser Pointer Forums: www.amazon.com/190-540nm-800-1700nm-Protective-Goggles-Eaglepair/dp/B01DP2HJ0S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1472235683&sr=8-1&keywords=eagle+pair+laser+glasses These are $42.00 no tax and free shipping (if you don't mind waiting). I have seen these same ones listed for nearly $70 plus tax. These are OD5+ but they still won't save your eyes from a direct hit. These are only supposed to protect you from glare.
