Thank you for all this research. I bought my GH kit out of Vermont. I'm in Georgia. It had a 10 year guarantee which I'm about 13 years past. Looks more like a sieve now, but I'm still using it. It's panels held two layers of plastic about an inch apart which gave good insulation. It would have been better if the framework wasn't aluminum. Maybe that's why the GH company went out of business.

A PhD greenhouse specialist in Fredrickton New Bruswick says 3 wall is optimal. 5 wall cuts too much light and that is the limiting factor for growth in winter. 2 wall too cold. 3 wall is the Goldilocks design

Lexan has the product name brand like Kleenex and Reese Hitch have. Many people call polycarbonate Lexan instead of polycarbonate, a facial tissue a Kleenex, and a receiver hitch a Reese hitch; regardless of what brand the product actually is. At the end of the day, you did great research and what worked out the best in both price and quality. Great video.

Thanks for all your research !!!! Ive been VERY interested in your greenhouse ideas since your last house & the reclaimed industrial (stuff) you had on that. It will take me some time to plan and save up , but besides the greenhouse for my children, grandchildren & i to enjoy as a science lab of what can we grow to eat from srason to season as well & this is a big one, the way you shared the greenhouse heat with your house, im in Northern Minnesota, so we have a FULL ON winter & long winter at that. I see our plus's as garden/ botany science lab, living space , as in secondary hang out room just off kitchen & the solar heat source. Thanks again - love all you vids, personality. Stay Safe. p.s. we might just add a mini wood burning stove in our , but that would be after the fact & a secondary addition if need or want came about. 😎

Thank you for the information. I'm in the process of assembling a small greenhouse for my tropical plants. All information provided was very useful but I didn't understand your comment about Vitamin D? Do you know we need UV radiation (from the sun) to metabolize Pre-VitD to VitD? What does that have to do with the greenhouse cover - plants don't go through that metabolic process and I'm sure you don't spend all of your day inside the greenhouse, so that's why I was wondering about your comment.

Hi, I just love all your videos. Very good topics and you do great research! Husband and I are retired and have physical issues which limit us. While we don't think we can handle building a greenhouse, you've inspired us to find another way to extend our growing season here in Pennsylvania. We have 4' x 4' raised cedar beds. Six of them. We want to start out making two of them like cold frames that the top can be removed and stored when not needed. I'm thinking that framing the polycarbonate with wood framing might work but hinges would be necessary and not a good idea to have to remove and install twice a year. Do you have any design suggestions or thoughts on this potential project of ours? Thank you

This is late, but I would assume the answer is water management. If the seals are not perfect humidity can build up and condense. If the channels are vertical then the water flows out.

It is true that polycarbonate is permeable to UV radiation. Unfortunately, polycarbonate is also very quickly destroyed by UV radiation, so any high-quality material for greenhouses has UV protection. This makes polycarbonate opaque to UV radiation. The only UV permeable sheet I know of is Plexiglas / acrylite Alltop. These are expensive and not hail resistant. UV permeable films made of PE or ETFE are also available.

If you are a gardener, you never have to worry about vitamin D. 15 mins of sun, 3 times a week is all you need and the process of making vitamin D runs out of precursors not much above that, so you can't really make 'extra' even with a lot of sunlight.

hey wonderful video as always FGG....so I have a gardening issue and question...I've had a wonderful summer season and now fall season of growing cherry tomatoes in Florida.. ..one issue I'm having is the red cardinals are eating my cherry tomatoes..I have zero issue feeding them and have a bird feeder near by to make sure they are happy but still they come by and take a single bite out of my cherry tomatoes and leave the rest alone...I've tried strips of cloth tied to stakes around my garden the flap in the wind to scare off birds and squirrels too...but the cardinals keep coming back...what are your thoughts ??? thanks in advance..shane

I read an ugly remark in the 2018 goals video ! That bothered me so I'm addressing it now.FYI I personally think your lovely, do not understand why anyone feels the need to write a derogatory remark ! What do they gain by this ? Nothing! Another remark I wanted to address is people saying it's child abuse for your two little girls to sleep together ! Ignorant idiots...bet they never gave a thought that bonding like that can cause a very close lifetime friend out of your sister ! I hope your sweet self and family get to have a wonderful tropical vacation this coming year! God bless !

Glass has the longest life but is also heavy so you`ll need a much sturdier frame to hold it. A clear pane of glass can act like a mirror if the light doesnt strike it at 90 degrees, the shallower the angle the less light goes through. Polycarbonate can be blown out of the frame, easy to scratch and can yellow over time. Inflated poly is an economical option but cant be used on all types of greenhouse. If cost isnt an issue, twin or triple wall inflated ETFE is far superior in every department, light transmittance, strength, lifespan, weight etc and its self cleaning ;)

Was that poly visqueen or was it actual greenhouse film? That looked like visqueen. Visqueen will deteriorate quickly in the sun. Fyi, Greenhouse film is quite different. It will hold about 90 pounds per square foot and stand up to around 100 mph straight line winds. My greenhouses use that type of material. Love your channel! Chuck
