Hi, some great ideas for me to think about, cheers. I’m going to be taking on an allotment soon and after watching your video series I’m leaning (no pun intended) toward a lean to green house utilising a shed as the lean to wall.

I'm right in the middle of building an aquaponics system with a greenhouse. I will literally be starting the greenhouse within the week using mostly reclaimed material. This series has given me a lot to think about. Great research. Thanks for the information.

Loved the end showing your actual build. If you could figure out how to do that while you are making your points, that would be really more watchable. I know making these videos requires a lot of work, and I appreciate your awesome knowledge , it's just showing has a lot of impact over telling. I'd like to know what siding and soil you used to create your beds? When and what do you intend to plant? Might be interesting to know how the temperature differs from inside to out on your build even if my situation would vary by any number of factors. Thank you. ^5 on your great room. Oh and you mentioned your old greenhouse put warmth into your main house. ARe you doing that here? How is that working?

We used some old reclaimed composite fascia boards for the garden beds. We just used it just because that is what we had. I will be talking about home heating with this new greenhouse in future videos. Its working great here just like it did at the old house! Today the outside high temp was 30 degrees F an it was about 85 in the greenhouse. Yay!

Thank you for your helpful videos. A few questions. Would doubling the size of your greenhouse make it harder to keep warm? Would triple wall polycarbonate work well. Im in northern ky. Do you think a 6x8x8 inground pond would help keep warm? Would soil less media freeze in shallow beds sunk even with the ground. Im thinking aquaponics. Geothermal tubes worth the trouble while i have the backhoe handy? Would removable panels with screens work well to cool it in the summer so i can leave some bigger plants in all year? Thanks

Did you consider a climate battery (french drains 2-4 feet down and a fan)? Solawrap? (R value 1.7, less yellowing, lasts ~20yr according to manufacturer)

Joan Smith We did consider the solar battery but after much research we decided it wasn't worth the additional cost or work. That and the obvious risk of increasing our exposure to radon (which very common around here).

I'm a little concerned about the soil level on the house side. It looks like it goes right up to the siding. Has a landscaper been involved with this? I mention it because when we had the soil on one side of our house graded it came up too high on the foundation and some additional measures had to be taken to protect the siding and the structure underneath from water damage.

Thanks for your concern! We had just added the soil the day before so because it was fluffy (I'm not sure how else to describe it) so it was high on purpose. I filled garden beds with this same soil and it compacted to about 50% of its original level. When it settles it will be well below the siding level. If it didn't settle like we expect I would take some out.
