It's good to see you advocating reusable lighters. I see too many people who put together survival/preparedness kits and throw in a bunch of cheap lighters that don't work well, if at all. A good thing to do if you carry a zippo: get a small plastic squeeze dropper bottle with a cap that screws on and keep fluid in that instead of the lighter itself. Whenever you need a light, simply put a few drops of fuel on the wick and wait a few seconds before sparking it, and that will keep you from losing fuel to evaporation while it sits in the lighter. Or make yourself a trench lighter, since they're not too difficult to make at home and they have a more tightly sealed fuel chamber.

Yeah that's a good idea.

Many good points about the different types and uses. One thing to note is that in winter (Northern Canada) a butane lighter won't light when it gets too cold so its good to have a Zippo in the mix.
@Weaponsandstuff936 жыл бұрын
Yeah as I think I said in this video, in the UK it seems to be impossible to ever get a day even in winter cold enough so a butane won't light, so I imagine it really only is Canada, some US states, Norway, Finland, Siberia etc where you would actually have that sort of problem.

A little update: I just went off to research the arc lighter mentioned, couldn't find any under the "Forhu" brand name but could find them under the name "SX4"* for £10 on Ebay, just bought one :-) *Look identical and I assume they are. Thumbs up, very informative.

I smoke a pipe and live in Canada a zippo pipe lighter works every time outside in the winter any butane won’t light here if it’s out of my pocket for more than 30 seconds

Where can I find Clipper lighters in the UK? I see people saying they're found everywhere, but I can't find them anywhere. I checked Tesco, Sainsbury's, Iceland, and various newsagents, etc. Most of them don't sell lighters at all. Only Tesco had any, and what they sell is a pack of generic "electric" butane lighters. They look similar to Bic ones.

IMCO is better than Zippo in the case of frequent-smoking situation, really. That's what my granddad used in early 50s. And Clipper ones - it seems that's one of the older model - suits quite well for the pipe smokers too.

Yeah I personally prefer IMCO lighters, a real shame they went bust.

Just bought a zippo last night and was sat for a while deciding which style to buy for lighting my cigars. Is it a general thing that the brass ones are built better or how do you know which are the good ones. Is it worth cancelling my order and choosing a different zippo or going for something made more for cigars? I ordered one that was 'black ice with laser engraving'. Also, my uni has just cancelled our chem labs because 2 unnamed suppliers have been providing gauze for bunsen burners that contain asbestos. Not sure if you had heard but thought you might find it interesting.
@Weaponsandstuff936 жыл бұрын
Brass zippos are generally just built to a higher standard than regular zippos but all zippos are nice.
@Shrimplington6 жыл бұрын
@@Weaponsandstuff93 I went back and looked at my order on my pc and I got a better look and the design didn't look as nice as on my phone. I opted for the high polish brass of the armour series as things tend to get bumped fairly badly in my pocket when I am at home on the farm and hope that the thicker walls will prevent dents. And it looks nicer than the normal high polish brass as it doesn't have 'solid brass'written across it.
