I wear a 150m quartz diver from 1978. The first generation and the movement is a lot better than quartz movements today. It was the high tech most accurate watch they made. I have worn it on the outside of clothing at -40c and in Australia at 51c and beat the hell out of it. All I have done is change the batteries about every 5 years and changed the rubber strap and had it serviced twice. The bugger is indestructible.

Tried out the Monster, Turtle, and the quartz Tuna and ended up selling each one. Finally ended up with the Kinetic Tuna (Yeti) and I love it. I’ve owned the multiple Seiko divers, and out of all of them, the only two left are the Turtle and the SKX. I absolutely hate the movement in the SKX and the QC is terrible, but it fits my wrist so well and it has a lot of memories behind it. The Turtle gets my vote for wearability, value, iconic design, and color wave choices. The rest are too bulky for my wrist, or too expensive for what you’re getting. I liked the Solar Tuna, but getting two defective ones in a row spoiled the experience for me.
@J69Nice3 жыл бұрын

They're really tough to beat for overall value in a dive watch imo 😊

@jonathanstoddard20812 жыл бұрын
@@harper07harper the Seiko SKX was introduced before the creation of the Prospex family of professionally-spec'ed tool watches. A great diver, to be sure (I have two of them myself), but not a Prospex piece. Do you happen to know the specific reference number to the piece you're considering?

@@harper07harper that particular piece is one of the solar options. It isn't a 'regular' quartz that will require a battery change every 3 years or so but rather gets charged by exposure to light. Because it's a "set it and forget it" type of creature I think it's a great way to venture into the world of Seiko dive watches. It's an attractive watch if you're into the Pepsi colorway, it's rugged so you can use it confidently without feeling the need to baby it while you're out and about living your life, and being quartz it should definitely keep time accurately. 😊 If you like the looks of it and find it at a price you're agreeable with? I'd say grab it! It is on the larger side of things, however, so if the opportunity exists to try it on before dedicating funds to the purchase I would recommend that as well. No matter how appealing something may be on paper if it doesn't fit well to your particular wrist dimensions it won't matter how pretty it is.
@jeffreygleaves29313 жыл бұрын
As far as suggestions go what I would like to see, and I think this is something you have an eye for, is spotting the watches we will all be kicking ourselves for not buying five years from now. An example: my father wanted to get me a Model 94 22 Winchester rifle for Christmas when I was a kid. They were around 90 bucks and we found one for $79. We should have bought every one on the shelf because they go for $1K a pop now. I'm sure there are watches like that if you know your stuff. Not to flip them but for that sense of satisfaction like with the 2nd Gen Seiko Monster if you knew enough to put one in the collection when they were $180. Of course no one has a crystal ball but that would be a KZbin "Influencer" angle I don't see anyone doing.

@J.Bradley.5 жыл бұрын
If you go sumo you still have more to experience within the Seiko brand when it comes to finishing. On the other wrist, the MM200 is just about as good as Seiko gets. There are a few that could be argued as better which I guess still leaves you a little room before you get to a grand seiko but not as many if youre coming from a sumo. Whatever you do, try any of them on if you can. In your hand, at least until you have some experience under your belt, will tell you most of what you need to know. Buy whatever you buy for yourself. If you see it and cant get it out of your head and then hold it and feel the magic you'll know. Dosent matter if its 100 or 5000 dollars. I've tried on 20000 dollar watch's that sucked and worn out 500 dollar watches becasue they were awesome. Good luck.

The build quality of the MM200 blows the SKX out of the water (I think Rob stated similar this in a previous video, and even shows here that these are more "premium" than an SKX or Turtle).
