Shall I 'say' something personal? Why not: I'm willing to be vulnerable. When I listen to this I find myself singing along, not very well, but.. and then tears track down my cheeks. The words remind me of my son, who is long gone. By the end of the song, I wipe my tears, and feel blessed that we have music in our lives, and I reflect on all that is good in this world. it's okey to miss loved ones and it's okey to go on, somehow enriched by what the arts give us that gets us in the touch with our humanity. So...thanks you four amazing Tenors.

My son would be 50 tomorrow (September 3) had he survived an aneurysm in 1995. I have always coped with the loss by sobbing, shamelessly crying like a baby. And to initiate the process after these many years I play a version of "Bring Him Home" which always triggers the release of the grief that will always be a part of me. I am not for a moment surprised that you also have a deeper relationship with this song and all the arts. I suggest there are legions of us. Bless you all.
@sharonaldridge33326 жыл бұрын

The first time I heard this, I just stood in front of the tv in a trance. Colm and John were perfect, and then Simon kicked it up a notch with his slightly deeper voice. Then when Alfie was allowed to take it to another level, he really delivered! I get goose bumps every time I listen to his first few verses. All of them do outstanding versions when singing the traditional stage version of Bring Him Home, so no need to argue about who's the best... they all earned the right to play the lead role in Les Mis.

I'm not a musical theatre buff, so I'm maybe not qualified but the first time I heard this was Colm, and been obsessed ever since and im sorry to disappoint the Boe fans, and it sounds like maybe he's the most technically gifted singer to play this part from what I hear but this song to me belongs to Colm. The 10th anniversary version is absolutely stunning. Just wow.
@garretthall4005Ай бұрын
That is precisely why I think Boe wasn’t perfect for the role. Valjean is a flawed character - I want the performer to have a beautifully and uniquely “flawed” voice. cold captures the essence of Valjean while Boe is too over the top - he often overshadows Valjean’s humility. Maybe it’s just confirmation bias because Colm initially set the tone of Valjean’s character. All of them are great; Boe just doesn’t do it for me, despite his unbelievable talent.

But it is great to know from the comments that this amazing song helps people who have lost children or other loved ones. No doubt an unpopular opinion, but I was lulled out of the beautiful, gentle, plaintive prayer-like vulnerability of the song when Alfie Boe came belting in.
