I just can't get over how stable your poles/pots are compared to mine. I do the same things
@justindavis22925 ай бұрын
What pots do you use? Orchid pots like those from repotme or similar have a conical bump in the middle that you can put the base of the pole around which adds stability. He also uses pumice and sand in his mix which makes the pot heavier I would imagine but pumice is pretty pricey for what it does.

Hi Jan, looking back at the old stuff as I'm about to start chopping and extending - I note that those stems are quite thick - wondering if you have any concerns about having a lot of thick stem in the substrate - if would seem not - I'm assuming that's because the drainage is so good?

@sydneyplantguy2 жыл бұрын
Yes that’s what I’d do but most importantly you’d need to give it more light so the new growth won’t be leggy again :)

@@sydneyplantguy Thanks for the response, we're potentially moving to a new place with a lot more light so I think I'll try starting from scratch over there! Hey, so far I have been using coir poles which my plants seem to love. I have now reached the ceiling with my Adansonii which has leaves about the size of my palm. I'm hoping to chop and extend. Do you have any experience with this medium or any advise? Thanks!
@sydneyplantguy7 ай бұрын
From my experience chop & extend wouldn’t work with a coco coir pole as all roots within the pole would be aerial roots, not water roots. Probably best to propagate the plant after the chop a little further before potting it up :)
@meganpahl36122 жыл бұрын
I am curious as to see what the importance of the ariel roots really are. I have heard that it doesn't matter if you cut them off if they are not currently climbing but, will this stunt the maximum growth ability of the plant? Also, if your plant needs to go onto a pole, but is a monster monstera and growing crazy, how can you stake them so the leaves are uniform as your are? I will wait for your answer
@sydneyplantguy2 жыл бұрын
I always start my poles with small plants so they grow up the pole as they mature, this way aerial roots will grow into the pole amd turn into water roots
