Thanks for sharing with us as ususal Marie. I see you taking out the seedlings by just pulling them out of the medium they are growing in and if you can avoid doing that in the future you can drastically reduce transplant shock for any seedling. When you pull them out like that, the delicate lateral roots on the main root get damaged. When you plant seedlings with a compromised root structure the plants take a while to regrow those lateral roots and then transplant shock is greater. The best practice is to use a pricking out tool (could be a piece of stick or a fork or spoon etc) that you would use to remove the seedlings with as much of the soil around the root zone in place as possible this way the root system of the seedlings retains much more of its integrity ie has more of the lateral roots. Also, water moves from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration (osmosis). If you plant seedlings in an area that has little to no mositure in the soil and you dont water them in immediately, water will move from the roots to the surrounding area increasing transplant shock. Best practice is to moisten the soil before transplanting, that way you can plant out all your seedlings then complete the watering process afterwards. I also know you may already know this but someone who doesnt could read this comment and understand whats happening. 😅 Signed Avid FOTR Viewer ❤

Just to add to what you said, the mulching also helps to protect the life in the soil, and of course, that's the main part of organic growing. By the way, you're doing a great job.

Thanks for always sharing. I know everyone is entitled to their opinion but I see nothing wrong with planting in a tyre. There is a lot of food being consumed which is filled with fertiliser that is causing us to be sick.
