It's been SO LONG since I did a repot video and even longer since I've propagated on camera! Luckily (or unluckily) this moron is broke from her holiday and needs to make some money so we're chopping up our plants today 🫣
This is for anyone who's mustering up the courage to cut their Anthuriums for the first time, or really anyone who is looking for someone to hang out with for an hour ❤️

It would be amazing to have you in the UK! I completely understand the comments of "why would you want to move here" because things are quite tough right now. The cost of living is high, house prices (and rent prices) are high, and the government aren't doing much to help anyone, so there's quite a bit of negativity about. However, it is a gorgeous place to be. I live in Wiltshire at the bottom of the Cotswolds, and having moved here from a city I really appreciate how quiet and picturesque it is. We're struggling as a country right now, can't pretend we aren't, but I have hope that it's going to get better, so don't let it put you off.

I live in Scotland and I would 100% travel for a really nice coffee/plant shop! Just an idea 😉 as for the “why would you move here?” thing, it’s just a thing people say. No one appreciates what they have and assumes everywhere else is better. Also, there’s loads of plant meet ups! You’ll find your people!

I moved from Texas to California in my 30s. That was over 10 years ago. I was ready for a change and I love California. It wasn’t the same as moving country but… not far off 😂 I assumed my relationships in Texas wouldn’t change much but they did. It isn’t the end of the world, but even minor time zone differences made a bigger difference than I expected. I made new friends in California after the move and I have a great life but I know now I didn’t fully appreciate how lucky I was to have the relationships that were years in the making. I am still glad we moved. Cost of living is higher where we live now but we’ve managed to improve our standard of living too. You’re doing a great job gathering information. The best any of us can do is position ourselves for success. Hoping however it works out, you’re happy with the outcome. My gut says you will be happy. Why not? I often say, I could be happy wherever my husband is- I mean it. I could be happy in England where his family lives but would I be as happy? I think… maybe. I would try to be. Maybe not 🙃 but it would be an adventure and I’d do it for him. I agree grocery options are better and less expensive in England- hands down. And all the beautiful architecture and green spaces everywhere… I can’t imagine I would stop loving what makes England so special to me.

We would love to have you here Alice!! Im from Seoul and moved to Surrey needless to say, I've really fallen in love with the culture and the community of this country. It helped me heal and recover from my rocky mental health I do love it here! I recently joined an anthurium UK group on Facebook I remember you guys saying its good just to keep in touch with the local plant community so thank you I was a little nervous but the people have been quite welcoming and wholesome. We are a group of 400 people but I've got some really interesting plants from just small individual hobbyists. Anthuriums are still a little new here but we are catching up I would totally visit your new plant coffee shop!!

Property prices are nuts everywhere, but Vancouver is obscene. In the states, property tax does not include any utilities. Where i am, a good portion of the population is on well water, and i bet the same is true in the UK, so maybe that's why? 🤷‍♀️

I asked Lauren to do a video as I had learnt so much from your and Charmaine’s previous ones. So much so that when I got a large Crystal Mag delivered frozen (the courier used freezer truck to deliver 😮) I had purchased it with the intention to chop up using your videos as reference so thought I might as well still practice the chopping even if the whole plant may well die. Well it didn’t die…. I lost most of the leaves on the top cut and what remained was super damaged as the fully frozen bits melted away. The top cut though has bounced back and so far has only given an inflo that was huge and gave me tonnes of pollen. The cataphyll growth point was total frozen over and 5 months on is just starting to regrow. The four chunks I cut from the long stem I cut off the fully frozen roots and thankfully salvaged a few very cold but not fully frozen roots. I potted them up in pon and kept the chunk above the substrate and after a month of assuring it dried out but roots were hydrated I surrounded the chonk with moss and covered with a plastic cup to dome it. Whilst I was in Vancouver on holiday earlier this month they all pushed their first leaves which was well welcomed but they all got a little dinged due to touching the cup edges but hugely happy they have all survived. Waking up this morning here in Dubai to you posting my favourite type of video was so welcomed - thank you. Having you film these cuts is not only amazing sharing of knowledge but also surely a great support to your sales of the ‘butt’ cuts as the buyers can be reassured of the health of the plant they are purchasing. Personally I’d feel comfortable buying them even before growth updates if I was local seeing the process you used 😊.

I moved from Devon to Toronto when I was 10. I went back to visit twice last year and realize how hyped up North America is, and that it hasn't lived up to what my parents thought it was. They are now planning on buying another house back in England for their retirement, and if I had the resources, I think I'd move back too. I think you'd fit right in considering what we can see of your personality via YT. 💚

I think there definitely is an attitude that quality of life is better elsewhere. People are quite fed up with the whole cost of living crisis, and the NHS being slowly bled dry. However we are still lucky that we have free healthcare. I also never noticed the difference in attitude towards newness/cleanliness until you mentioned it. For example I've seen that white eggs are the most prevalent in the US but here they're usually brown. I guess because they're seen as more 'natural'? Also men never wash their hands after going to the bathroom lol

You don't have to make Vancouver wrong to justify wanting to move to the UK! It's good enough that moving there is something you want to do. You'll be fine and you're lucky to want to and be able to make the move. BTW I'm not from Vancouver or Canada though I think British Columbia is unmatched for it's natural beauty.

I'm from upstate New York originally, lived in SW Florida as well. Moved to the UK about 15 years ago now. First to N.Ireland then to Essex in England. I love it here. It's become my home and I don't think I could ever go back to the states. There's so much versatility if you want a city life, coastal or country and sooooo easy to travel around. I find there's a better work life balance and overall more security. There's a really active Aroid community too and the European Aroid Society is great! We meet up all around Europe and visit amazing botanical collections. You'll have no trouble finding friends of your own, coffee and plants is a winning combination!

As someone who is very very scissor happy with my anthuriums, I love watching folks take and grow cuttings. I don't ship or sell any of mine cause I work in ops and logistics for a living and I don’t want to ship anything in my free time 😂 I just really enjoy the process of growing from cuttings, trading, and I like to have at least 2 of each of my anthurium even though I'm perpetually running out of space 🥴 Also as a side note, I don't like to comment on people's appearance cause even compliments can make someone unintentionally feel uncomfortable but as a big skincare girl myself I just had to mention that your skin is straight up GLOWING in this video. So nice!🔥

Hi Alice. As a US American living in Europe and having been to the UK a few times, I agree: The UK (specifically) seems a bit grubby overall. But after two decades in Europe, I also know I appreciate their gentler cleaning agents. Firstly, because they get the job done just as well, secondly, they are way better for the environment. And I also think that past a certain point, more aggressive cleaners don't do more cleaning, they just harm surfaces, our skin, our air/environment, and they just really mess with nature (wastewater). Whenever I go back to visit family (USA), I tend to dilute dishwashing liquid, detergents, shampoos, etc. It's just too much. And I have to constantly moisturize my hands and frequently cough because it is just too much. Note, I am a germophobe - so I do like to think my house is hygienic and clean, despite not using harsh chemicals, bleach, and the like.

I Couldn't afford a house with land for my horses so we looked at Sweden, since land is cheap. But the thought of moving 20 horses was a bit daunting. And by incredible luck we ended up finding a farm here in Belgium, about 5minutes(!!) away from our rental. Way under market price but lots of renovation costs. Sometimes things just happen. But the idea of moving countries would also be exciting in a way. Turning a new leaf is a fun idea. Also if I were to visit say London and you'd have a plant store/coffee shop there... I would probably add an extra day to my trip to visit, lol. You will absolutely find friends there, too.

I remember working at Save On Foods pre-pandemic and the cauliflower was $10+ CAD depending on the weight - nobody was buying the cauliflower so it went bad and we threw most of the cauliflower we had received in the trash :) We also threw away bread the day before the expiry date, and one co-worker, bless his heart, was fighting to have it sold at a discount instead of trashing it, but he was ignored and then moved to the meat department :) Capitalism 🌈

Happy Birthday! Great video, loved it! I live in London and very happy to have you here in UK! I understand why people are saying why you want to move, however UK is extremely versatile and is a good place to live! The real state is expensive too and you probably get less for the same price in Vancouver, however people who move to UK never want to go and live anywhere else in the world! Hopefully you will find your own piece of haven here in UK and I guess prices are cheaper in Wales so a better place to live! And the barn conversions are beautiful and massive! Good luck with all the changes in your life and happy growing!

I think the butt cut selling controversy is more when people will sell fresh cuts with none of the GPs activated yet, so people feel that it's really risky. I've seen people sell very sketchy looking cuts for pretty high prices which I don't personally agree with, but at the same time if you feel that it's risky, don't buy it, so I don't think it's a really huge issue. That RA5 x self is soooo gorgeous! My specimen is quite similar looking to yours actually, I bought a butt from someone a few months back and she's really starting to take off :)
