"Major labels have been astonishingly sluggish in snapping up Tiempo." The British critic Jeremy Nicholas wrote that -- in 2006! The pianist now in his fifties of course was never a secret tip for his musical godparents, Martha Argerich and Nelson Freire. Even more than Nelson and Martha or Magda Tagliaferro, Sergio Tiempo seems to have warm Latin blood in his veins, the almost hallucinogenic blood of Gabriel Garcia Marquez. This does not diminish Tiempo's identification with Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff and Ravel. Rather, it adds a fresh, vibrant dimension, an immediacy that lifts performance to sincere, generous communication. I love this guy and think you will too. Let's hope the record companies look past the latest competition winners and see a real genius.

Even though I'm not particularly fond of nationalities, borders or anything that divides our world, I have to say that I'm proud that this Giant of the keyboard was born in the city and the country I was born in. If this is not the best rendition of this emblematic master piece by the most prominent composer of the romantic era, it definitely has to be among the greatest. Divine phrasing, deep understanding of the soul of the piece. deeply-felt, sincere and delicate touch., passionate, creative, virtuosic, impeccable. And with this marvelous french orchestra and this conductor you really resuscitate the sublime genius of this great composer (if it ever died) Bravo Maestro Tiempo, you make Latin America proud!!

I regret that in my comment I did not mention the wonderful orchestra, and maestro Myung-Whun Chung, their performance was the absolute necessity for this, to me, incredible experience.

I consider myself lucky to hear this performance. An all time favored of mine, this is possibly the most sensitive and brilliant I ever heard. Mr. Tiempo is new to me, without the theatrics most beautiful playing.

Excellent. What a talent! This is certainly one of the best interpretations / renditions of this concert I have heard. This young musician really understands the spirit of this musical work. Musically and technically impeccable. Absolutely sublime! ... Bravo !!!

Wonderful concert and brilliant work of the true master of the piano, I wish he would have composed even more concerts for piano and orchestra, but his life was very short, and I think its amazing what he achieved, and his musical legacy is enormous and will forever bring joy to people all over the globe, IMO, and Sergio do this beautilfull work of art great honour by his very intense and also very sensitiv piano playing, together with this very fine orchestra, thanks so much for sharing this beauty!...:-)

Sergio es el pianista más sincero honesto y sencillo que ha habido en toda la historia. Ciertamente se le fue una nota pero eso no importa a él se le perdona todo. Es la creatura más hermosa y linda que existe.

Wonderful performance and so lyrical. Not a straight ahead cookie cutter performance, but one that has wonderful dynamic range, sensitivity, and spontaneity. Here we see a much better musician than some of the overhyped young superstars - as this is much more than that flashy technique without substance.

He manages some incredible speed; the final run of parallel seconds, for example, around 6:40. Generally, he achieves effects of diabolical menace, more than anyone else I've heard (including even Benjamin Grosvenor!)
would've taken 1st prize chopin competition + best performance for piano concerto!

@raffaeleschirone86553 жыл бұрын
Way too senseless comment. This is a majestic rendition: clear, polite, brilliant and always into the thread of the narrative. Only some envious pianist could not appreciate his 2nd mov., which most of the times gets boring because of mediocre (and even acclaimed) pianists. Moreover, the Coda of the 1rst mov. is PERFECT.
@sungjinlee28353 жыл бұрын
@@raffaeleschirone8655 whatever;; I was just talkin about my taste. It is true that his performance is little bit more agressive than Krystian Zimerman’s or Seongjin Cho’s rendition. I’m not saying that Tiempo’s way is wrong. He surely is a great pianist, and I have no intention to blame him. But it’s just not my taste.
