쇼팽을 너무 사랑해서 정말 수많은 노력끝에 프랑스 와서 정착해 살고있는데 생활이 녹록치않네요. 너무나도 힘든 이 시간, 정말 쇼팽이 사랑했던 도시 빠리와 이 곳에서 작곡하고 활동했던 나날들 그것들을 쫓아 여기까지 오게해준 제 오래된 꿈을 다시 상기시켜주는 좋은 연주에 정말 큰 힘 얻어서 갑니다. 너무 우아하고 힘있고 서정적이고 터치하나하나에도 작곡가의 의도를 고스란히 전달하려는 그 놀라운 집중력과 혼신의 연주 너무 감사해요. 쇼팽을 너무나 명쾌하게 해석해주시는 조성진님 언제나처럼 또 영원히 조성진님의 팬일듯합니다. 쇼팽 우승 직전 우승자가 누가 될지 아무도 모른채로 우승자에게 주어지는 첫 리사이틀 티켓을 사서, 우승자의 음악회를 직접 보는 행운을 저에게 가져다주신 분. 그 연주자가 다른 누구가 아닌 조성진이라서 정말 행복했고 감격스러웠습니다. 그 순간 기억하면서 힘내서 살아야지 싶네요. 쇼팽 발라드 아름답습니다.

У меня было тоже самое, но меня тогда спасла музыка в исполнении Алексея Султанова. Он выступал на конкурсе Шопена 1995 года. В финале зал стоя аплодировал ему 40 минут. Чем то его игра напоминает корейского пианиста, но может быть более страстная. Послушайте, не пожалеете!!!

저도 이 말하고 싶었어요. 많은 피아니스트들이 감정조절이 안되서 나중에는 치던 손맛에 따라잡혀서 발라드임에도 행진곡처럼 우당탕탕 나가는 사람들 정말 많아요. 테크닉으로 극복해서 치시는 분들도 많지만 그런 음악보다는 귀로 듣고 거기에 손으로 움직이는 음악을 할줄아는 피아니스트들은 많이 없는것같아요.

It's amazing how Cho delivers the perfect amount of softness to roughness where it needs in different parts of the pieces. I am so grateful to be living in the same age as such a great pianist as Seong jin. Just because we feel the music doesn't mean we can play it well. For those who've played the piano for even just a hobby know how hard it is to actually execute the feelings, intensity, and the tones that we want when we are playing because it requires so much attention and practice and a deeper level of love for the music....

i would never clap in a chopin´s ballade performance... no words after hearing it, just shock

I have been listening to this for the weeks, day and night. Just can’t get enough of him. How is this even humanly possible! He has played this the most perfectly in accordance with the sheets. What an impressive performance. I play this clip the whole time, when in cafe, study, work, walk, shopping even when i work out at the Gym. Omg.

Each time I listen to these four Ballades I am in awe at the ability of Chopin to compose such magnificent musical tales/ballads. And each time I am in awe at the ability of Cho to present them with such depth of understanding, beautiful sound and sensitive expression. As always, Cho's superb sense of phrasing & nuance gives a special artistic touch that is his alone, one of the 'secret ingredients' that make him the favorite pianist for so many of us! Bravissimo!

I am in awe of Chopin and the music he wrote.....he wrote it, and this guy with his ridiculous and wrong overinterpreation is not even nice ti listen to. It is not whar Chopin intended. Look at a purist performance by Krystian Zimerman.

@@virginiabuhn9719 .i took ten years of piano lessons with a very well known composer and musician. If you look at the music and know how to interpret the myriad if symbols, you would know what Chopin intended. And this is not it. You think it is "fresh"....i think it is wrong. Even Vladimir Horowitz, as great a personality as he was, added his own notes....one example ....Liszt Consolation ib D flat, he adds a note at the end, which is not in the music. Tempo (which is indicated at the very beginning of the music), rest length, loudness, increasing and decreasing dynamics and accents are all indicated by the length, and size of the symbols. They are all specific and not to be played how the pianist thinks it should be played. It is how the music is written by the composer. Daniil Trifonov is a purist. There is room for interpretation, but over interpretation makes the piece sound weird and definitely not what the composer intended. Zimerman won the Chopin competition because his interpretation was definitely the best. Martha Agerich is another purist. You call Cho "fresh" because you are tired of hearing the music as it is supposed to be played? I find it grinding. Cho tries to make it his own by his emotional input and he does not follow what Chopin wrote.

@@elizabethavolck7784 You, nor anybody else, knows exactly what Chopin intended. I appreciate and enjoy both Zimmerman's and Cho's performances of Chopin - although different in style, they are both masters. The beauty of music is that creative interpretation can lend new life and insight to 'old' works. Rigorous orthodoxy eventually makes art, and life, very stale.

I pretty much disagree. Personally i dont like adding personal interpretations to the pieces as lots of other pianists are doing, but the very reason I really love this particular 4ballades cho has played is that he just purely played as same as the Chopin’s original sheets without adding his own interpretations.

Such a demanding program! I'm amazed with this young man's endurance. I want to say his performance of the A flat Ballade was to me - perfection. The F Major was the one he played at the 2015 Chopin Competition, and this piece is so deeply in his heart and fingers it soars!. The g minor he could listen to Rubinstein or Zimerman interpretations to hear the phrasing conversation within. The f minor was so very revealing into the life of Seong-Jin. It took both great physical, and emotional strength to perform so well. Bravo! Very well done. Seong-Jin Cho is a mighty pianist who especially shines in heroic works such as the Chopin A flat Polonaise, and Beethoven's 5th concerto. He is working very hard, and his repertoire is growing enormous. I hope he remembers to take care of himself, and find a peaceful place to relax between work, and performances. It is in peaceful times where the artist is nourished, and their thirst quenched - and his musical depth will grow while experiencing life.
