Hi everyone! I was planning to do a livestream today playing this piece - however, my internet connection is not stable enough today so I just recorded it to share the progress with you guys! :) This is just a "work in progress" video - so still very far away from a "final interpretation" if that excists :P I started practicing this piece around May and had an on/off relationship with it due to concerts with other program but now I want to focus more on the Ballads in the next months and keep you updated about the progress! Also a little reminder here for my album release concert in the Liederhalle Stuttgart - here you will find tickets and more info!: www.easyticket.de/veranstaltung/annique-goettler-chopin-etudes-cd-release-concert/94675/

All ballads has their on details, wonderful and powerful at same times. Only different "stories" tha need to be learned. But this coda is so magnificent. Rise from the deep of the the soul pointing right to the sky. Is absolutely amazing. tension rise till the agitato and increase like a storm until the scales that are just a prelude to the octave that close on the final G with like closing, once for all, the war. What do you want more😂 is absolutely wonderful

Hello Annique, very good interpretation of the Chopin's ballade n°1, I appreciate your fascination toward Chopin's music : rubati are light and pertinent, fast part are insane !! and lyrics melodies are very good. This style correspond to you like the relation enter your piano and you, and I think that it is very important in order to find your way. You have find it, and that can be the most beautiful reward of your life, you'are lucky ! Expressivity of this music can be expansive ; at contrary, that can be very calm an melancolic, this is magic rules of Chopin's music, that I understand instantly. Good luck for the next !

I love that you’re following the score and articulating the many staccato/portato chords as Chopin wrote. Wonderful performance! I know it’s easy to be really hard on yourself but for a “work in progress” this really was very well played! Edit: Also, great choice of tempo! Many pianists rush through this piece, not really that it’s a ballade..
@elias7748 Жыл бұрын
Love this rendition! Very unique. One thing I have to comment. In the first theme with the repeated chords, it’s not written as staccato, but portato, otherwise known as mezzo- staccato. The google definition of portato is: a smooth, pulsing articulation and is often notated by adding dots under slur markings.

The staccato in the early passages of the ballade do not work. I believe that the piece is an emotional journey, where it is important to manage the pain and anguish that Chopin is conveying. The appropriate place for staccato playing is the highly dissonant intervals that Chopin chose as the gateway to the theme of hope that appears three times.
@biedebadretsonia64548 ай бұрын
Absolutely my opinion, lost some deep introspection with this staccato. But as composers said, this masterpiece has so many ways to be played. Be sure to play with ur heart.

@terranbricklin Жыл бұрын
Right? I checked the score and it is actually written in as staccato, I guess just no one plays it that way.
@erwinschulhoff4464 Жыл бұрын
@@terranbricklin ive noticed that in general there are many times in chopins music (or just in "classical" music in general) the staccato marking is ignored and im not sure why. Take for instance chopins op10 no 9 etude, almost nobody (fredric chiu being an exception) plays the beginning with the staccato as marked. Maybe beacuse its more common to play it with pedal so doing so without is much more "unorthadox"? (same issue with some of the orginal alleged tempo markings with some of chopins etudes)
@terranbricklin Жыл бұрын
@@erwinschulhoff4464 trends pop up, and most performers just do what everyone else is doing so as to avoid sticking out and being rejected by the masses. It is unfortunate though, as now the interpretive expectation for pieces such as these has morphed so extremely that simply following what is written is considered daring and original. Annique is also well known for her middle voice in Op. 10 No. 1, and that's literally written in the score as accents; but nobody plays them that way.
