It's been awhile since I've uploaded some live performances - I'll be uploading selections from my recent concert in El Paso, Texas as part of the 25th Anniversary of the El Paso Chopin Festival in the coming weeks. I hope you enjoy them! A special thanks to Dr. Lucy Scarbrough for inviting me to perform.

the main reason why people who dont enjoy classical music is bcoz the cant understand the joy of playing the piece but somehow josh wright has bypassed this by really forcing us to listen to the beautiful inner voices and i bet everyone will enjoy this. Great performance josh

Josh, I have not listened to this Scherzo with intent since my own student years, nor have I heard you play a concert work of its stature before. You have taken me back to a time in my musical life when things were a little more potent than do they feel at present, and the world of the piano was an Aladdin's cave full of bejewelled and glittering treasures. This piece was one such treasure. The images it conjured up for me then, they are still with me now just as they once were, but years later and through you. How wonderful is that, that Music is such a transportive and nostalgic art. That it should suspend Time as it does, yet all the while regulating it. I enjoyed your performance. Thank you!

Josh your performance came to me like an epiphany in the wee hours this morning here in New York City.. To both see and hear this piece played by someone with your enormous talents and years of hard work is a real privilege. I say this as a professional musician grateful for an opportunity to hear music with new ears, as I did hearing you play. I have watched many of your teaching videos but this absolutely bowled me over. Thank you thank you thank you.

Beautiful, i love that you showed all the 'colours' of this wonderful piece. Many times they play it all very loud and fast, only like a virtuosistic piece and they ruine the melody and the sweetness inside. Thank you
@cynthiawalker56203 жыл бұрын
My mother used to practise this peace after she tucked me and my brothers in bed. She played it very much like this rendition. So many performances seem more focused on the speed - but this has more an air of nostalgia and pensiveness. Beautiful.

A very nice, solid, artistic performance. My only comment is that the trills at 2:14 technically should not be played with the double grace note. Chopin almost always WROTE the lower neighbor notes that way but performance practice dictates otherwise.

The performance is pretty good, especially regarding it's a one-take. But I really didn't like the instrument. Too metallic, and it doesn't seem to allow for great dynamics changes or need enough effort to play. Did you have the same feeling?

Why doesn’t the performance get exhausting? Like I can barely play a piece to it’s full 3 mins let alone 10mins to an hour performance
@amiksimon1455 жыл бұрын
It depends really, this piece doesn't have crazy exhausting parts, for instance comparing it to Winterwind, the piece has no pause and that's one of the problems with it. Sherzo has some stopping points to emphasize the melody and doesn't require the power of Winterwind. Phrasing also helps maintain some energy.

Fairly good. A few points. But I spare everyone. Don’t get up from the bench so fast. That last chord needs more time to resonate. Cheated on that difficult spread out arpeggios figure in Db. Learn to do it with one hand. For several reasons, the least is the pure virtuosity of it in full flight.
