This one goes beyond TC or jungle. It's one for the music-making archives, big up for recording this process.

The editing features on the s6000 is better then some of the new samplers, as for the naming a keyboard with a PS2 connector makes life easier, and it’s no different then using an mpc! But great video!

@@tcdnb Just a thought would it be easier to create a default goto program with lets say 64 keygroups and have already the keyspan mapped to a 0.1sec blank sample that way then you only gotta change the zone sample just to save all that copying and pasting.

Tight video, the detachable screen on the 6000 is actually kind of cool. These things were peak Akai sampling workhorses. Nice punchy clean sound and super easy to use

These are great machines. I have a few samplers (Roland VP9000/EMU E4turbo/S5000/S3000x) I love em all for different reasons and they all have so many different uses) Both the S5000 and S6000 have different sounding converters. I’ve got a maxed out S5000 with the USB, extra output channels and FX cards. The 5000 definitely has a really punchy and gritty sound all of its own, I found the 6000 to be nice but more polished. I use an old 2009 MacBook Pro with logic 8 which I mainly use just for midi and tracking everything goes thru my Yamaha 02R via 16 channels of optical digital lightpipe into two chained Motu 828 mk2’s You can use the optical outputs on the Akai’s to go into a digital mixer or out of a sound card or interface into the sampler, endless possibilities for staying entirely in the digital domain…. It sounds just like 1995-1999 😅 Workflow is more fun than working in the box and mixes sound way better than DAW/logic mixes.

totally agree with you the workflow is mad on the old machines

Awesome video. If you want to do this a little quicker use a program that can export AKP (Akai Project Files) files. I chop my drums in cubase, then render to 16BIt (or it won't play in the Akai), then put same whole break in recycle, add hit points and export the AKP file. Then transfer the AKP file and the wav files and it's done, ready to role immediately chopped in the DAW, locked and loaded in the sampler. Chicken systems translator also exports AKP files. If you have a optical out on your soundcard you can also record in/out of the AKAI S6000 if you want a lossless conversion. Also don't forget to record your breaks in hot using the "line"and "mic"settings then layer underneath the original break. Some of the best distortion I have ever heard.
@tcdnb2 жыл бұрын
I have this working also but I like to show the process of the old school too

Does anyone have it? Please i need it! Also, i work with the mpc4000 with ak.sys. Because of that it makes definately sense to connect the s5000 and transferring back and forth between the two AKAIS. Anyone? Thanxxxxxxxx!

Very cool. I too am fascinated by how electro rave producers produced and recorded back in 91 to 98. Something about this time. The whole Atari 1040 with Notator or Cubase, all MiDi recorded to Adat. The whole hardware sampler usage. Im so into it. I try to watch any old school recording clips I can find.

TC if you could jog my memory it’s been a very long time didn’t recycle give you the start and stop point on a sample if you were to load it in there and then reload it into the Akai? I had the S 2000 I just cannot remember for the life of me exactly how it was done and thanks very great and educational videos.

There’s a super quick way to avoid going through all the samples to the correct pitch, if you goto meygroup and select all samples then I think it’s the keyspan menu then velocity settings, turn KBD to off. That way you can play any sample on different keys and it’ll play at the original pitch :-)
